what markings are on the ford spark plugs for a 65 shelby? and were they autolite or motorcraft? I found a nos set that say MOTORCRAFT SIPCON 4D1 Are these correct? Thanks- Roger
are you wanting info on wires or plugs? wires: boots were marked FoMoCo. wires were marked SX and were numbered by cylinder. had steel core & were non resistor Spark plugs : Autolite BF-32. the ones with a "star" are more valuble. Z. Ray 6s1117
AFAIK , just the SX and the cylinder number, same as any K-code. I would suspect if your wires have a Motorcraft logo they are not NOS from 1965, but a service replacrment part produced some years later. Z. Ray 6s1117
Motorcraft was not Fords "house" brand until 1972. so, it should be Autolite stuff. Fomoco was forced to Sell off "Autolite" due to Government anti-trust law suit threats. Go figure. So, no, Motorcraft SIPCON is not correct.
Talking about ignition wires...where do the orange/tan wires that are seen on early 289 cobras and some 427's fit in? Were they aftermarket? or a 'performance' part? Ford part number?
They were an AUTOLITE over the counter Ford item starting (if I remember correctly) in 68. You'll see some fairly original cars as well as magazine articles/ads with them.
I have a set of the correct wires (solid core) for 65 Hipo if you are looking for some. New repops. Complete. BTW The tan wires were made by Autolite, Beldon and others. Often sold in bulk length from a spool to make custom length wires. Rick
