Need help finding the right one for the 65 Shelby T-10. I guess this is the 389 rear axle....anyone help with a part number? A picture would be most helpful....please.
are you looking for the gear inside the transmission (drive gear) or the one that is attached to the end of the speedo cable (driven gear) and slips into the transmission ? The "right" gear will depend on what tire size you are running. Z. Ray
Hi, The correct drive gear has 7 teeth and with blue dots (27.61" diameter) and 3.89:1 the driven gear should have 20 teeth. Please remember that the drive gear should have threads leaning right and the driven gear leaning left. Hope I got this right. /Bo
Hi, If you have other tire sizes or rear end ratios, please use this program to calculate the correct driven gear. http://www.bgsoflex.com/auto.html /Texas Swede
Bo- MPC lists the "C30Z-A" 6 teeth made of steel and the "C5ZZ-A" a pink 6 tooth speedo gear. Is it one of those? NPD sells both a 6 (pink) and 7 (black) both are nylon. Should I still go with the seven teeth on the drive gear? They suggest the 6 tooth pink C5ZZ-A on the higher gear ratios.
Hi, I believe the drive gears you mention are for a Ford Toploader close ratio transmission that has 6 teeth or wide ratio that has 7. They won't fit an original T10M1. All original T10M1's I have owned or seen have had a metal 7 teeth drive gear. My 67 with a close ratio T&C transmission has 6 teeth. /Bo
okay a metal 7 tooth is my goal, thanks. I think I messed that up and the C30Z-A is the 7 tooth steel
Hi again, I believe you are correct and will need a C3OZ-17285-A which is a metal 7 teeth gear that fits a B&W transmisssion. Mustang Monthly from May of 1988 has an excellent article about speedometer calibration and there they specify the above drive gear for BW 4-speeds with 3.89 and 4.11 rear axle ratios. If you find a source for these could you please inform me. Thanks, /Texas Swede
