Hi to all 67 fans.As several people have posted all research thus far has shown us that this is more of a production date of the Shelby conversion, rather than any other factor.I did a post about center ducted scoops with little response because few people know or notice the difference. The cost to install this type was the highest, and it is closest to the 66 type. The second design saved some time and money on the line, and still ducted air.The non ducted type was real simple and real quick, and other than different style of fasteners, and different suppliers they did not change as much. All that to say there is no number specific to a stoppage of production of ducted/non ducted type brake scoop. The thing to watch out for is a car that has rotten duct hoses and allows water entry each time it gets washed. It can really cause wet carpet and underlay which will then cause the floorpan to rust.If you really want to cool the brakes you need to follow the R model style, and drill the backing plates, then duct to them...

I think we are going to find a final VIN but no solid cut-off date or number. Rather there will be intermixing of ducted and non-ducted cars towards the end due to how the cars were pulled off the lot.

Were the cars serialized in the lot before they were brought onto the production line or were they serialized on the line? If they were serialized on the lot, that would explain a lot of things, like whichever car was nearest to the door might have been the next to be brought inside. I would imagine that the line would be building GT350s one day and GT500s the next. Maybe we should also be looking for the last GT350 AND the last GT500.

Not sure what your use of 4 exclamation marks is for, are you looking for proof or are you just in disbelief?

The info you are collecting on the DSO sheets does that list the parts for the functional scoops ??? The sheets I have are to late 89-2608 and 89-2604 ?
and would be to late in the run

The Add/Delete sheets relate to what Ford did at San Jose not what Shelby did (scoops were added there)

Agreed, scoops were put on at Shelby not Ford.

    Dominic,
Can you send me scans of the D.S.O. sheets you have when you get a chance? Thanks.

I believe the 66's you may have been referring to were the last four converts which IIRC (don't have the registry handy) did not have functional scoops due the interference with the top fold down mechanism.

This information is interesting but having functional or non functional scoops does not enhance the value of a 67 in my mind . A lot of 67 Shelby's have been modified over the years from non functional to functional because it was seen as a negative just like many outboard headlight cars have been modified to in board lights. You have to be careful of the validity of the gathered information with out taking into account the possibility of modification into consideration. I don't think a 67 Shelby is better or more valuable if it has functional vs non functional side scoops. The scoops were a marketing ploy only . They were functional technically but in reality the scoops on 66 to 70 Shelby's were absolutely worthless, they didn't direct air to the rear brakes the air instead blew on the tires because of where the outlet exited into the wheel well. Since they were worthless anyway in mid 67 Shelby/Ford decided to eliminate the plumbing and make them non functional all the way . The non functional side scoops continued in all of 68 but Ford /Shelby started to get flack for the now phony decoration only scoops and so the scoops were made technically functional again for 69/70. Again the outlets pointing at the tires and this time the ducts were smaller yet and about as good as blowing through a straw. I love the cars even though the functional side scoops have always been a embarrassing subject I try to quickly get through when asked questions about .

It definitely seems to go by production date, not vin number. My car #2100 is non functional. I bought the pieces to make it functional in the late 80's from Branda. They were parting out an early 67 GT500 and I thought I wanted mine to be functional. I never installed the pieces after talking to others and realizing that they were only functional in terms of letting air in the wheel well, not for cooling brakes.

    I own 67 shelby gt 500 # 1817 it has functional ducts.
I also own 67 shelby gt 500 # 273 it alos has functional ducts.
So what is early and what is late??? In both cases I know for fact they are correct to the original Shelby build............

    I agree with Bob..........
Whether a 67 has functional or non functional side scoops, really does not effect it's value. But as "TLEA" wrote, his car #2231 has functional side scoops, which we can assume was a change after purchase from non functional to functional based on it's late number, so there may not be any clear cut final number based on the number of modified scoops after purchase.

Its actually a friends car but I've looked it over and it definately has functional scoops. I've never had the interior panels off but what I've seen looks original. I'll give it a better scrutiny next time. IIRC its an April build.

It is all about the build date, not the vin. My car #2100 has non-functional ducts and was completed on 5-13-67. This date seems to verify that Texas Swede's car #1317 is correct to have non-functional scoops as his was completed on 5-25-67.

Does anyone else have Shelby production dates for their cars. I think we could nail down an approximate date of the change with a little help.

Well, that seems to narrow it down to a 2 1/2 weeks timeline. From April 27th to May 13th. Hopefully someone can narrow it further.

Don't know if we ever nailed down the exact date but my car #00636 was completed by SA on 4/26 and does have functional scoops/ducts. Swede- FYI... my car also was a "Pico Rivera inventory" car and Shipped 10/5/67.
