As I live on the other side of the world and don´t have access to new US cars on a regular basis, I would like some input from people who have driven the new Shelby GT.

The reason why is because I recently got the chance to rent a 3641 mile GT-H convertible and that car just positively surprised me alot. I liked the looks, the feel, the sound and actually also the power of the car. (I never really liked the new GT500)

I have up until now mainly been into the Saleen 94-98 body style (have 98 S351 speester, 98 S281 Cobra speedster and 97 S281 Cobra coupe) but this 2 day trip in the GT-H + a long drive in a friends 2005 Mustang Vorteched coupe, really got me considering selling some of the older cars and getting one of the never.
I really like the 2006 GT-H, but the 2007 Shelby GT is almost as nice ;)

In another tread here, Doug_GT350 said that Shelby could take a new Shelby GT and turn it into a factory original Shelby GT/SC. I would think that this wouldn´t apply for a used 2006 GT-H coupe, so that´s why I´m considering finding a 2007 Shelby GT (as old as possible as taxation on new/newer cars here in Denmark is just rediculous - a 2007 would probably be 4-8K cheaper in registration tax than a 2008).

Having Shelby certifying that the car is a true Shelby GT/SC would mean a lot for me personally.

Long story .... here the question:

Does the new Shelby GT ride and sound the same way as a 2006 GT-H?

I see 2007 GT´s being advertised from mid thirties. Is there any major options I should be aware of being there/missing when comparing prices?

    Thank you
    Anders

I believe that the only difference between the two (besides Stripe Color and Badging) is the Hood. Shelby GT has Hood Scoop Rivited on Factory Hood and Shelby GT-H has a Heat Extractor Fiberglass Hood.

The modern Hertz Shelby's are only available as automatics. If you want to shift then the Shelby GT is your car. I believe both cars have the same Ford motorsports exhaust, so they should sound the same. Options wise I know the big one on the 2008 Shelby GT is HID lighting and ambiant interior lighting. Neither was available in 2007. Also 2008's are all blue (except the grabber orange ones in California) and 2007's were white or black.

From the pictures, it looks like the GT-H has some kind of extra lower lip around the rear bumper.

I have seen "Sirius" radio mentioned in a few adds?

The 2008 GT also come in a Grabber orange "limited edition". Car #10 is actually for sale on Ebay right now.

So I guess you say that the 2 cars should be pretty identical in driving experience?

Having driven both, I can tell you that they are the same cars......except for some option differences, the power is the same, and the handling is also. Other than the marketability of the H cars being 1 of 500...no difference at all.

The Hertz uses a standard Mustang GT rear bumper cover and the Shelby GT uses the California Special rear bumper.

Thanks for your input. I have just asked a dealer to find me a 2008 Vista Blue GT and have it modified with the SC and the Hertz hood ;) Hopefully he will succeed in finding one already at SAI.

Except for the Grabber orange California cars, navigation is not available in the 2008 Shelby GT.

I have a GT-H. Other than being limited to automatic transmission, different hood, and black with gold stripes, they are identical to the '07 Shelby GTs. Same front and rear and side fascia, same under the engine mods, same interior. The '07s changed (obviously) with the '08 models, but I don't think it was significant (HIDs, interior lighting, colors and stripes).

Some GT-H owners have added a SC - process would be the same as with any other Shelby GT. It seems that you can still get an '07 Shelby GT for around the same as a used '06 GT-H, if you look hard enough (and you qualify for rebates, financing, etc.).

    Good luck!

Oh yeah, the '06 GT-H has a Sirius satellite "add-on" receiver - don't know if the '07 models had it integrated into the radio itself.

They are the only 2008 Shelby GTs that have navigation as an option.

Navigation was an available option on the 2007 Shelby GT. For some reason, Ford does not allow navigation to be ordered on the 2008 Vista Blue model.

Thanks for all your input. I just closed a deal on CSM 08SGT0064 - a Grabber Orange coupe - and made arrangements with SAI Las Vegas to factory modify the car with a SC, Shelby/BAER brakes, SC gauges and brake cooling in the beginning of January so I´m really exited  :guns: :guitar: :laf: Well off to sell a car or two so I can pay for this stupid stunt ;)

    Good for you!
I was wondering if it was just going to be added to the stable.
Looks like you have some hard choices to make - which to sell?
I see two I would want if I had space (I could leave the wifes car out side... )
Did they give you any idea on shipping and taxes to your location?

Thank you. Transport back to Scandinavia is not actually as bad as it would seem.

This time I have a F350 and trailer that I will transport to Europe by roll on/roll of ship early 2008, so I´m considering putting the new GT-C in the trailer as this would be cheapest that way. Since weather here sucks until april anyway, I´m not in a hurry :)

I also have a 98 Saleen Cobra speedster. This car will be sold, and I would also like to sell the Coronet R/T convertible.

Which of the cars do you like?

WOW it must be nice to have money!!!! I would love to add an S/C, but after paying the market adjustment I can't afford it. I had to get a second job so as it is. Oh well if ever hit the lottery maybe I can. Good luck Anders, I wish you well.

Yes, the different prices is for me very interesting as where I come from, everything is pretty much standard and more or less non negotiable prices.

The #10 GT-C I liked because of the low number but the dealer were not not willing to go below 43K

The #64 GT-C that I bought, I got for 37,7K (does not have Navigation like the #10 car) and the dealer i very helpful with the transport back to Shelby i LV.

Most other 2008 could not be had for under 39.900.

With the danish Tax system, for every 1K I save in purchase price, I save approx $2750 on the registration tax. My best estimate is that the total taxes on this car (this is excluding purchase price, mods and transport) - before I can drive it here - will be very close to $69K.

Ford Denmark currently sell the regular premium GT coupe for $138,6K ........ no wonder why they still have a few of the first batch of 20 2005GT´s left ....

Crazy!!! - but again, two different systems, like comparing apples and oranges. Had it not been for the current exchange rate though, it just wouldn´t have been possible.

Wow . . . please say you're referring to Danish crowns or kroners or whatever and not dollars! $138,000 U.S. dollars for a Mustang? Ouch!

No, this is actually dollars, calculated with todays exchangerate the price actually went up to 138.966,-

This is of course because the Mustang Gt has a fixed price of DKK 699.000,- and as the dollar goes down, the exchangerate makes it even more ridiculous. In all fairness it should be noted that about a year ago, when these cars were priced, the exchangerate would have calculated a dollar price of approx 119.000,- USD. Still kind of crazy though.

New cars imported are taxed with 10% toll of purchaseprice + freight, then 25% tax on top of total up until then, then 105% of the first part of the total cost up to that point and then 180% of the rest .......

The Felton car & the TA would be my first choices, if you were having a "Garage" sale...your tax system must make it difficult to get good cars there.

I sold a C code 65 fastback years ago to someone up there, and the way he presented his dilemma was that sending a 65 vs. a 66 saved him thousands of $, based on some arcane law that had a lower rate on the older car.
