over 100k for rough basket case. ...unless you get lucky and find one outside the mainstream market that's buyable. Better cars more. I suspect 65's will ride out the soft market better than most.

100k min for a shell, unless you just happen to "find" one.

During my search, I found a few that were shells, some with a little more, and that seemed to be the starting point.

is this a hypothetical exercise, or you actually know of a "basket case '65 GT-350 ?

The ones I know of fall into two camps. Either a clapped out heavily modified racer or a pristine over-restored trailer queen.

he is trying to "Find" one, has not yet.

There are a few basket cases left - I know of 2, and the owners would not budge off their "dime", and I would not pay what they wanted for stripped cars that were little more than unibodies (and one did not have it's Shelby tag, just the stamping on the pass side)
The one I know of in Idaho I have heard was been sold, the other I don't know.
This is where being persistent and doing your homework comes in.
I think Orlando Mustang has a 65 that is a "Clapped out" race car, at least they did a month ago.
Maybe Pete will take a trade?

You can buy the one that just sold at Barrett Jackson for $420,000 with the wrong radiator and had reverse lights!!!

That sounds like # 069. I noticed the incorrect parts a long time ago. The tape rocker stripe and placed too high. It is still a nice car and you know they don't make them anymore. Proper placement for the rocker stripe could set you back a few thousand these days!! HA HA.

 

I believe 5S 515 is for sale in Las Vegas. The current owner wants to sell and buy vettes and camaros for their business. You all may remember 515 Tony Sousas car.

 

I believe 65 #515 is a good car with good history. I looked at it last year.
