1966 Hertz on eBay...Real

I thought the exact same thing when i read the description a couple of days ago.....sounds like the car might have a few stories.

The Ad sounds ligit to me.....easy enough to Check the Past R&S Auction Results to see if it was there.

I contacted Howard about it (they list that Ford VIN as if it's a foregone conclusion that a block with a "K" VIN is automatically a Shelby block). I was contacting him more to let him know that there's a Ford VIN on ebay that may or may not correlate to a Shelby VIN, even though it's stated to not match the Shelby VIN listed. He has asked me before not to share his answers on the forum, so I'll assume the same request applies to his response in this case. His response did not imply any sort of questionable past, however. The Registry shows very little history, however there wasn't a check-mark (signifying questionable history) as of the 1997 Registry. A hertz without it's original motor would be more common than a matching numbers car. The weak bidding does seem odd, though. Perhaps the story of it being returned has scared some people off, or perhaps there's something that SAAC knows and shares if one expresses interest in buying it (I did not).

 

This car has been up for sale in the past on EB** and has been discussed on this site I believe. So a search might help turn up the concerns/facts others had shared there

The wording of the add seems pretty clear ... if you fill in the blanks

 

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed the uneven spacing of the rear export brace holes.

Here is what we know. The car is titled as a 1966 Shelby with the vin of SFM6S587 and the original Shelby vin plate on the driver's inner fender has the same matching Shelby vin. If we are reading the vin on the motor right, it has a vin of 6R09K152782, which would be an original Shelby motor, but not original motor to the car.

Could it be that this is a re-body.. using the parts from the Hertz car?..

I wish he had posted the number that is on the car ...

 

This one was a rebody using a 65 body 5R09A229739. This was shown in the last Ebay sale.

 

To me when I see an ad or something like this its just ticks me off to no end when they can't get Carroll's name right. You would think that if they even had a clue about the car or the car's history that they could at least get his name spelled correctly.

 

There are a few things that are definatley incorrect but is that an 8" rear?

 

Looks it to me, it's probablly an open rear to boot!
