It will be OK if you use a block of wood to distribute the weight. If you don't use the wood, you will put a nice dent in your rail. Cheers..

If it is a Shop Jack, place it under the Lower "A" Frame or under the Engine Cross Member. The Frame Rail is OK at the Torq Box. Place a folded Towl on the Jack Pad to keep from Scratching anything.

Your first option should always be the suspension, front control arm or rear axle. If the body is weak, a jack in the wrong spot could be unsafe. safety or jack stands are a must. JMO

tell me about it, my frame rails look like moon craters thanks to the former owners or their "mechanics".

My frame rails also have a "creative" look from previous owners .

I place a jack at the very front of the frame rail where the cars were supported on the assembly line plus use a block of wood. Then I place a jack stand, with padding, under the frame rail just behind the front tire(s).

I know lots of people use the engine cross member, tried that once but watching it flex under load with the original T-pan just above it made me very nervous.

The moon craters are from using a jack directly on the frame rail. Common back in the day. That is the area where you use the wood block to distribute the weight. As far forward as possible, then jack stands as stated earlier. Cheers..

You might want to consider buying a good shop manual to help ID these items. Also invest in a good pair of jack stands, play it safe, never get under or work on the car with only a floor jack, even a tire or oil change!
