    Hello Everyone
    I have a few questions about how the cars left ford and arrived at shelby.
    Firstly im restoring my 67 shelby gt500 i took the rear glass out, it came out perfect no trouble.
    My car i now ready for paint however i was woundering when ford shipped the 67 fastbacks to shelby and he put his parts on fiberglass, gauges,rollbar ect but did shelby take the glass out of the fastbacks he got(front and rear glass) to paint his cars.
    Im assuming that shelby painted his cars because if he order a candy apple red plane fastback then put the fiberglass on it would need painting to match the rest of the car.
    or did he simple just paint the fiberglass panels and install them?
    Also to all shelby owners what do you think is best way to paint the car with out the glass in or with it in?
    (its original wimbeldon white and we are going to install the guardsman blue le mans stripes)
    Any help would be appreciated i just dont want to leave the glass lying around in case an accident should happen.

    Dave, the cars were shipped from San Jose Ford plant to SA without the trunk lid , end caps,hood or front mustang sheet metal. The fiberglass pieces were painted off the car to match the color of the car being converted. Some of the fiberglass pieces were already painted body colors before being shipped to SA. The fiberglass pieces were painted with lacquer paint. It did not hold up well. Many of the colors did not match well with the factory Ford enamel painted sheet metal which is evident in many vintage OWNER photos from back in the day. I would suggest painting the car without the glass in it . That is the way it was done at the factory and gives the best finished look. In case you are unfamiliar with painting the 67 Shelby be sure to fit and do all body work on all of the fiberglass pieces first then take them back off and paint them off of the car for the most professional looking job. It will probably look better then the factory job. I hope this helps. Bob
