you just have to keep your eyes open. ebay, the SAAC forum, this Shelby forum, the Hi-Po forum, etc are all places to put an ad. you can expect to pay $ 1200-$1700 for a restored carb in excellent condition. Un-restored won't be a whole lot cheaper. Maybe as low as $ 1000 if lucky. I've been looking for the right carb for 6s1117 for a long time. I have an excellent 715 properly date coded for a 1967 GT-350 for sale (or trade for a 1966 715) but have had no takers. The thing is, they are scarce. Z. Ray
I have an original Holley 780 list # 3255 with a date code of 5B1. It's # C5AF-9510BV That I'd like to sell. It may only be for a 65/66 427 Cobra or a 65 R Model Shelby, however. It has 4 speed linkage and is fairly clean/complete.
I saw your post and recalled that I have a 1966 Shelby - Holley Carburetor among my spares. I just pulled it out and shecked the markings: S2MS-9510-A, List 3259-1, Date Code 674 (July 1966?). Probably too late for either of your applications. If you bump into a fellow 1966 enthusiast that needs a later date code ..... pass along the lead. Rick

Oh, I feel your pain! I needed one dated December, 1964 for my car, looked for three years and got the royal run around before I found the correct one, and as luck would have it, wound up with two at the same time. This was to be expected as December 1964 date code carbs are not easy to find. Finding one for your car shouldn't be too difficult, you need one that with a date code 1 to 6 months prior to the date your car was finished at Shelby American. What you don't want is one built too close to, or after the date your car was built. Depending on when your car was built, you need one with a list number and a date code, nothing else. The date code should be three characters. If you are a SAAC member, there was an article in last months magazine about these carbs. To locate one, I would set up an EBay search, Contact Craig Conley and put a Want-To-Buy ad on this site and the SAAC site. You might also contact Pony Carbs as they are in the carb restore business and, from time to time come up with cores. Watch out for people trying to pass on a Holley replacement carb as an original. The presence of the un-machined secondary accelerator pump nozzle base on back side of the secondary venturi is a dead giveaway. I would rather have an original, un-restored carb, especially one that was not re-plated. I have never see a re-plate job where the color matched the original finish. An original carb probably will have a worn base plate on the primary throttle shaft side. This is easily fixed by having a competent machine shop install a brass bushing. I can get this done. I don’t know what you are going to pay for a core, 700 to 1K for a core was the going rate when I started looking, but one of the ones I ended up with came with a 1600.00 price tag for an un-restored core. It all depends on how badly you want one. Good luck

I wish I had the carb or the rest of the car! Sadly went to that big drag strip in the sky. The carb was listed as being used on 1965 Hi Riser Fords by Holley. As far as I know, they were only used on "W" code full size 427 Fords and Fairlanes from 65 to 67. Shelby also sold them out of their parts department.
I have my original (rebuilt) carb from 5S386 List 3259 dated 534 Also have List 3259-1 3438 (don't know this date) And a new Branda repro List 3259-1 S2MS-9510A Don't know what the values are except the Branda ones are now about $950.
