I was installing the seats in my early 67 gt350 today and realized the uphostrey was different. IT is the smooth deluxe and not the comfort weave of later ones but the patern is different. Where did this come from? I think after looking at the seat in more depth i thought maybe the early ones used 66 seat frames? Educate me you wise ones.
I have a late 67 with the same smooth deluxe seats with the deluxe seat buttons, they are still original. I have not found any rhyme or reason why my car does not have comfort weave upholstery. I can't post pics right now but will try later.
In late 1966 the San Jose assembly plant did not get the "comfortweave" upholstery until the middle of December 1966. So, early cars have smooth seats. Then late in the production run, the plants ran out of the comfortweave upholstery. This is why a few late built 67's have smooth seats.
Hi to all, If you have a Marti report for this car it will show the trim code. It is a number-letter code and is how Ford described the trim used. The info is useful to track statistics like how many were made with this color, and style/trim.The only way to get new smooth vinyl is from a trim shop. The regular suppliers lean towards the comfort weave. If yours is decent I would make every effort to save /preserve it. Hope this helps! P.D.
Just last year I replaced the front seat upholstery on my 67 GT 350. All I ordered from NPD was standard upholstery. When they asked why no comfortweave, I explained that it was an early GT 350 without it. The plastic back fits, and the only thing you have to contend with is the placement of the chrome gizmo's on the upper section of the seats. If you want to use an upholstery shop, they probably could remove the gray cloth along the bottom of the old lower seats and transfer that to the new covers. This would hide the fact that the new covers are repops.
Here is what i was talking about when i said my uphostrey was different. They kind of appear like the early smooth but, the seams thru the middle are not sewn like you the standard upholstrey.
Because of the diameter of the welting and the heat stamped seams it does not appear original to the car. Bob
