I'm trying to determine the correct transmission and shifter combination for a 1966 Shelby GT350. The car is later in the delivery cycle, S2214 to be exact. The car currently has a top loader and I'm trying to determine if this would have been a T10 car originally. In terms of the shifter, was the Hurst standard equipment? Thanks so much.

Close Ratio T10 with either an aluminum case and tail shaft, cast iron
on both or combination of cast iron and aluminum. My best guess
will be a cast iron in both as your car is late in 66 production.
Shifter is standard Ford Mustang with the Borg Warner rods, of course.

Thanks Swede. I located and rebuilt a cast iron/cast iron close ration (H-code) T10 from a car less than 100 S/N away. Talked with a pretty well established restoration shop last week that said the top loader might have been the original trans.....started sweating and shaking immediately:confused:

Now the hard part. I have been completely unsuccessful at locating the correct T10 shift linkages and transmission levers. Anyone have a source for these?

    Jeff,

I agree a cast iron close ratio T-10H is likely the correct original for S2214, I still have the same style original in 6S1757. If you have found one you are very fortunate as they are extremely rare.

If for some reason the car originally came with a top loader I wonder if the Ford VIN is stamped on the bottom pad like it is for standard K-codes, might be worth a look.

On the bottom pad of the toploader? I'll take a look. The toploader crosses to a 1965 Mustang hence I don't believe that it is correct for the car but with these things I guess anything is possible.

The search for the T-10H was exhaustive....or should I say exhausting. We paid a pretty penny for it for this customer. It was in good condition though; a simple rebuild to freshen was all it needed.

I have a T-10Q that the owner had intended to put in the car if we couldn't find the H-code. It has been rebuilt and is in very good condition if anyone is interested.

i have a T10H-1 (main housing) T10H-7B (tailshaft) gearbox in my very early 65 mustang fastback. It has just spat the dummy and needs a rebuild - we've taken it apart and the cluster gear which meshes with 3rd gear has lost one tooth and two others are cracked and the third gear dogteeth are absolutely worn but....... the rest of the box is pretty good.
    2 questions plse
    does anybody know where i can get a cluster gear 31 24 19 17
a 28teeth 3rd gear and a quality rebuild kit from? and does anybody know where i could find the information to decode the numbers/letter on my T10 please?
    cheers.
    Graeme.

Thanks Snelly. I found a source for the levers and rods from Ford Vintage Shifters.

Does anyone have a nice picture of the T10 trans installed in the car, or a diagram from a shop manual. The Comet/Fairlane/Mustang manual for 1966 doesn't cover the T10 installation. I want to make sure that I have the levers oriented correctly before installation. Also, the adjustment procedures would be helpful, but for the most part I would assume that they follow the same philosophy of the toploader and other four speeds of the era.

    Thanks Shelbyforums.

I may know of a cast iron T10 that came out of a 65 Shelby. It was replaced with an aluminum one out of an original car. Email me and I will give you the lead.

Thanks Pete - much appreciated . ive actually been able to find
all the bits i needed to rebuild mine from a chap Bob Bartlett at
    www.fourgeartrans.com . He's been a top guy sourcing and
obtaining for me a near new cluster, 3rd gear, quality rebuild
kit and a 'how to rebuild a t10' instruction guide - well packaged
and sent priority mail for just over $400 usd. I couldn't be happier
My GT350 was auto but the T10 ive been looking for bits for is out of my
early '65 Fastback but thanks again for your help. Hey love your
own site and if only i could afford that '65 you rebuilt - great car !!

    cheers.

Got it all figured out. If you haven't had the opportunity to deal Bill Heely at Vintage Ford Shifters, I'll say that he has been a tremendous help. When no one else in the free world could come up with the T10 levers and rods, he came through with a perfect set. Then follows up with excellent customer service letting me bend his ear a bit.

I agree 100% about Bill. He has restored several shift levers for me
and done an excellent job and not expensive either.
Really a nice guy to deal with.
