The porky 4250lb 2010 CTS-V can do 0-60 in 3.9s. Its rear tires are P285/35YR19 (same width as the 2010 Shelby GT500).

    I have a few questions:
    1) why can't the 2010 Shelby GT500 do 3.9s, being that it is 300lbs lighter?
    2) surely the stronger and lighter 2011 Shelby GT500 can do 3.9s, especially with SVT performance pack? I've read that people are saying that it should be able to pull 4.0s. Well how about 3.9s? Why can't it pull that? I just don't understand.

    thanks for the answers.

If 3.9's are important to you, just get the Cadillac. It is a much better car overall. It doesn't have that muscular look of the Mustang but it does everything else better.

That really was unhelpful. I'm asking about the science behind the acceleration numbers, not soliciting car purchasing advice. Thanks.

Wonder if the tranny has anything to do with it? The Caddy uses an automatic which shifts faster on average - (I know - there are those of you who can outshift an auto)

I think you're onto something here. The cars that do 3s typically have electronically assisted paddle shifters or automatic - each shift would save a few tenths of a second.

However, how many shifts would there be from 0-60mph? I'm guessing only one right?

Has anyone been known to launch a stock Shelby GT500 to 60mph in 3.9s?

I have read the Mustangs are traction dependent. That could be a big difference. Got to get the power to the ground. :)

No, Cobra can't do 3.9 sec's stock . I love my Cobra but I'm selling it now. I'm in need of this ctsv. it holds a globally dominant track record for any sedan, ever. I wish the shelby was the fastest coupe in the world ! I would look more in to it instead. I saw multiple drag races with new shelby vs ctsv and the shelby got embaressed every time . But I wasn't suprised

I was at the track recently and the GT500's and the ctsv were running simular times. Oh yeah, don't forget the Caddy is ugly and gets very little respect from other car guys, at least around here.

No man, it's a Ford quality car vs. a high-end luxury Cadillac car. The shelby does 155 tops while the new caddy can hit very close to 200mph tops. it doesn't need chips of de-limiters, or kid's bull shit. And that Cadillac front and rear is so much nicer than any mustang i've ever seen. Mustang is childish car while I've grown up now and want the super cars - Caddy's V-series cars, ford GT supercar, and new zr1. Ford makes wayyyy better cars than GM, however, Ford does not make better cars than Cadillac in any category.. truthfully and honestly- Cadillac's way nicer interior/materials and much more powerful car. If they do in the future, tell Ford to start their cheapest Ford at $45K and go to $130K, Cadillac doesn't sell $15K new cars like ford. lol

Be sure to see the 2011 CTS-V coupe (195mph tops) in a drag race with the 2012 Shelby GT 500 KR (155mph tops) lol . it'll be interesting to see who makes it to the 1/4 first !!

The CTS v has a very good traction control electronics so the computor drives the car all you do is mash the pedal. anyone can do it what fun is that? as far as going 195 where are you going to do that? automatic what fun is that? suspension ajusts itself depending on conditions so you need no driving skill either. pefect car if you don't want to input you skills. i think i'll get one as soon as i turn 80 so i can show them young wippersnappers.

All I'm saying dude is you can't compare a nice luxurious Cadillac with Ford's Junk. Cadillac doesn't make cheap cars like ford. At least 50K you're spending on the cheapest BRAND NEW Caddy. Don't compare ANY Ford's quality to Cadillac. Cadillac embaresses Ford in terms of quality and materials. I still have my 04 Cobra that I kept when I went to Iraq for 2 tours...But I'm done with Ford. Everything Cadillac has made has been a thousand times better than anything Ford ever made. and that's for real. Cadillac will also Last longer than Ford, and won't fall apart like my Cobra did. Cadillac is a different level than Ford. Completely. So much nicer and better looking cars than Ford. I don't like how Ford builds NEW cars for $10,000-$15,000 - that's CHEAP !!! I HATE GM, But Cadillac is #1 Auto maker in history. Lifetime of Love for the Shelby's though !!!!

and then when we talk Cadillac Vs. Lincoln, Cadillac again is way better than Lincoln. Ya and that CTS-V coupe goes into the 1.10 "G" level almost to a ZR1 - the CTS-V coupe WILL out-run and out-handle any shelby ever made. Ford needs to step it up....ALOT if they want to keep me as a customer.

Just buy the Cadillac with a manual shift box (all V-Series (8) have optional manual mode shifters. The Cadillac's WAYY better looking than a lame Ford. And it's the " World's Fastest Produciton Sedan " - 08 ctsv. The world's fastest production coupe is the Ultimate Aero SCC !!

Cadillac will out-speed and out-handle ANY BMW ever made or ANY AMG SEDAN ever made - and that's a fact. The Marine Corps will give me the loan on the Cadillac for my service, though I can already pay for it all mostly until I sell the Cobra. Cadillac is the best American car Company. and you can't argue with that.

Yes the caddy with the twin flags on the back will outrun the shelby and so will the nissan gtr,,,but ,,,you drive that caddy down the strip and then the nissan,,, and then drive the shelby down the strip,,, see which one turns the heads. It will be the Shelby.

556HP. The bigger discrepancy is torque. The CTS-V has something like 549ftlb of torque to the Shelby's 510ftlb.

Also weight distribution might have something to do with it. The Shelby's lighter rear end means less down force on the wheels at the start.

I have to agree with dc-dd along with a few others. The horsepower and torque discrepancy is a major factor in who gets 3.9 and who doesn't.

I think there is more to a car than just going fast. I get great reactions with my Shelby GT500 and probably yawns from the Caddy. So I like the styling aspect too.

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAH Unless your still in the Marine Corp (which I doubt) they won't give you sh#t! You have to be active duty stationed overseas to purchase through AAFES who is the contact point. You can't bullsh#t an old retiree!

Cadillac, you mean Government Motors crap! Yea their just the best:laf:.........not. Gee the only thing you'll need now is pink carpeting, fuzzy dash board, dice hanging from the window and a 8 track player so you can listen to Soul Train Hits! Oh yea don't forget the champipple, bell bottoms, and that long fuzzy coat with the wide brim hat. Where's my hole's and spinner rims!BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH:wacko::rolleyes::doh: You could put the optional hydraulic lift, low rider suspension on it too!

Let me help with your grammer a bit. You could have just said, "out perform any BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!:laf: Must be dat fine Marine Corps Edumacation. Now be a good little jarhead BS'er and go away and play in the traffic:wacko:!
