I will be in the market for a Shelby in the next 6 months or so. I was thinking of the 2008 GT500, but after reading all the various issues, clutch etc... I am open to ideas, not sure i want to buy the car then either pay for a new clutch or fight to have the dealer put it in. I will be using it to commute a couple days a week, so stop and go traffic could be a reality. I do like the GT 350, with the exception of the hood scoop. does the 500 hood fit? Basically i am looking for feed back on what you would buy now knowing what you know now about these cars. I plan on buying used. Thanks for the help.
If it is used from a dealership make the TSB for the clutch a requirement before buying. In stop and go traffic it will be an issue down the road. Do not let them tell you that it would be under warranty either because it's NOT. Look around for a late built 09, it already has the new clutch,,,no issues. Look at craigslist in your area and surrounding areas,,,as far as you would want to travel. Good luck and let us know.
I have noticed prices on the 2007-2008 shelby's coming down, so I am keeping my eyes on those. I guess it will come down to the right car at the right time, and of course right price! Just doing my research ahead of time so i can make a good decision when the time comes. Thanks -
The Shelby GT's have a problem as well. If you search the forum here you will find any number of threads talking about defective stripes on both the black w/silver stripes, and the black w/gold stripes and to a lesser extent on the white w/silver. It amazes me that Shelby added $10K for the Shelby GT upgrade and could not even buy quality stripes to put on the car. For cryin out loud you can go on Ebay and buy stripe kits that are warranted to last 7 years. I know stripes are not as big an issue as something like a clutch but it seems a lot harder to get Ford or Shelby to replace them.
I have to say, i am suprised that 'Shelby' and Ford did not care of their customers better concerning the stripes and the clutch. The price of these cars is a significant investment for me and i would not have the extra cash to fix problems after the fact. I still do love the looks and performance of these cars, so i guess it is buyer beware and i am thankful to be finding out about these problems before my purchase. Thanks to all for the info -
