Hi. I have always loved classic Mustangs and have owned quite a few. I ran a restoration shop for classic Fords for 20 yrs. Now, I have a big interest in the 12 convertible continuation cars, built in the 80s. I have seen the site by Wolfgang Kohrn, but am more interested in pictures, and lesser known facts, ie: where the cars came from, and where are they now. I would also like to know if anyone has ever built any clones of these cars. I would like to know where the black and gold convertible is now because I acquired one that was built in the 80s, and has all the signs of being one of the originals.
If I am not mistaken they were built by Beverly Hills Mustang(now defunct)on original (used but restored)1966 mustang convertible bodies...Trent
thanks for the response trent, please keep me posted if you find any info or pictures on these very neat shelbys.
I have one - #2385 and there are others who post here that own or have in the family some of the others. The SAAC registry has the Ford VIN numbers of all the original chassis used for the twelve and their corresponding Shelby VIN. This cross checking helps eliminate confusion and fraud with clones. I believe they all are accounted for but all you have to do is contact the SAAC 65/66 registrar by way of the SAAC website and you can confirm beyond a shadow if the Ford VIN corresponds with one of the 12. Thanks for sharing. @Kevin, thanks for mentioning my little hidden Ponysite. I know through contributors of 2-3 clones that were planned to be built, but haven't seen later pictures of those projects nor heard again of them, no black one however was mentioned. Each Continuation car came with its own set of build sheets to document and verify later the pieces that were exchanged or left original from the used body. It should be rather easy to diagnose the DNA from those papers aside from the VINs.
I have not heard this before. Where are these build sheets? I have heard some personal accounts from the building of these cars but did not know about the build sheets. Randall
I got one set of 9 pages from Joey Davis (PO) of the first one serial (6S2381), but last built one. I would contact Major Brunk to check out if the other document sets are still around. As far as I know SAAC did not have them all , at least they had not seen them prior to the first set shared with them in 2004. I guess Howard Pardee has followed the case up, so maybe you ask him first. You can see one page here under 6S2381 on http://www.ponysite.de/shelbyconvertible.htm BTW - if you want to share more info on your own CS cars, the related pages of your family continuation cars could take personal notes and memories
