The restoration shop that did the body work on my car threw the wiring away, said he does not take any chances on the old original wiring. My question, what is the best, most original wiring I can buy for my car? I want it to look as original as possible, and of course, I want it to work correctly. Its been a while, what does the top of dash tach wiring connect to? Thanks For Any Help I receive, Garry
Garry ,sorry to hear your restoration shop was using that old cope out to justify a mistake they made . That was awefully unthinking of them to throw away a piece of your cars history for you with out your permission . Most reputable shops will give the unused items back to a customer to save and keep or to dispose of if useless so as there is no hint of impropriety. It is usually one sign of shortcomings that will show up in other areas of workmanship as well.There are many cases where shops will not bother to refurbish old original parts and just buy repro anything and then sell the original items to people who are restoring there cars to show level concours and want only original parts. Many more times they are just lazy and don't know how or don't want to take the time to restore/ refurbish. Ether way it's a crime IMHO. Many times used assemblyline items can be refurbished to look like new. They are many items that even NOS service items will not look the same as assemblyline items which is why no prudent restorer throws any original item away and instead ether waits until the end of the project or gives back to the customer. You can't get the same look or fit with the majority of repro parts. The repro wiring will look similar but not like the original in ever detail. The plugs are the places that a reproduction wiring harness falls short on in correct detail. The underdash tach wiring harness for a 66 GT350 is the most expensive to replace. I usually can reuse and restore most all of the wiring . The underdash tach harness is the one that the 66Shelby tach plugs into by way of a male and female bullet connector made into the harness near the ignition switch plug area. I wish you only the best of luck with your restoration but I have a bad feeling about it based on what you wrote . Bob

I think the restoration shop might like to pitch in I have seen some cases where shops keep old parts, replace them with repeoductions and then sell your original parts, not very nice. Regardless if they reuse it or not, they cant just throw it away. You need that harness to verify the new harness is correct for your vehicle. Once you have a new harness then it can be thrown out but NEVER before. As for reproduction harnesses I couldn't tell you if the Shelby would be the same, but I would recommend Tony D.
