is there a way to check the value on some original 67 Shelby fiberglass. I have a hood, nose, front grill complete with outboard lights, trunk lid & end caps, a set of 68 shelby 15" hub caps. and a wooden shifter ball i believe from a 1968 GT500KR. All have been varified as original by a top Shelby guru/collector/judge. I will be listing these for sale soon, and was trying to figure out todays value , so I can ask a fair price? thanks
The way to check the value is to list them without a reserve. The buyers will determine the price. I would be interested to know what you found out about the shifter for a 68? Is it the shift pattern or a Cobra snake emblem ? The 68 hubcaps are unique and easy to identify. Can you post some pictures of these items?
well here are the pics so far. Hood, Nose, nose support bracket, grill, outboard headlight brackets with buckets, fender headlight brackets with buckets, lower grill (apparently from an inboard car, due to the mesh spacing) extended bumper brackets, trunk lid, end caps. I also have hub caps from a 68 Shelby and a wood shifter handle (knob) with the snake. I ran out of room and was only able to upload 16 pics, I do have many many pictures The fiberglass has a high quality gray primer exterior finish, and most of the metal parts I had professionally glass beaded with a military grade glass at low pressure, to clean off the surface rust and old paint, they are now primed and painted with a satin black finish. any thoughts anyone?? I did get this stuff varified as being original Shelby, by a top notch professional, I have yet to get his permission to post his name and crudentials, but will do as soon as i get permission. stay tuned more pics available
The bumper brackets are repro . Your top Shelby guru/collector/judge missed that . Can't say to the genuine ness of the end caps because of lack of pictures. The rest of the parts look legit from what I can see in the pictures . It appears the parts came from at least three different cars. The best of luck with your sale. Bob
Thanks for the reply can you reply or send me a private message with your email address, I'd like to send you all the pics I have for further analysis
I am learning a lot here. what do you see that ID's it as a 68? and is there a way to tell if it was off a car or over the counter? thanks, i appreciate all the help i can get. I dont want to mislead anyone, i want to be as accurate as possible in my descriptions.
Without going to detail, its about the shape and texture. That is a 1968 decklid. One end cap (the white one) is also a 1968 part. For all practical purposes, the service 1968 fiberglas is the same as the production stuff.
Since Pete did not mention the end caps I thought I should for the sake of accuracy. The one side is a 68 injected end cap that has had the inside lip cut off to appear more like the 67 style. The other appears consistent with the more primitive appearing 67 end cap. This (besides the trunklid) is one more reason I said the parts are from multiple cars for whatever it is worth. Bob
The picture you posted of the outboard brackets are those of a reproduction . Besides differences in the shape and notches on assemblyline pieces the genuine ones had stiffening gussets in the bends for strength as can be seen in the picture. This is readily visible in the grill area. The buckets mistakenly had the the small adjustment brackets painted black and should be plated a zinc silver not that the the mis finish effects the authenticity of the bucket.Bob
I thought I would mention for those reading that the picture posted of the early 67 style hood with the steel innerstructure is notched in the scoop area of the inner structure for a GT500 oval aircleaner lid in the front and the back. This would not be appropriate for a GT350. Bob
Great info! This will help me advertise them more accurately. So , so far it looks like I have: Original 67 Shelby GT500 Early style Hood Original 67 Shelby Nose Original 68 Shelby Trunk lid 1 original 67 Shelby end cap 1 original 68 Shelby end cap Original 67 Shelby nose support bracket Original 67 Shelby grill for outboard lights Aftermarket fender headlight brackets Aftermarket light brackets for outboard grill 4 original headlight buckets (60 Galaxie?) Aftermarket extended bumper brackets Original Lower grill (but for an inboard light car) Thanks for the replies guys! Your insight is greatly appreciated
the fender brackets are most likely replacements just like the outboard brackets. The nose is the earlier 67style. Bob
To all that have inquired on the Shelby Fiberglass and assorted parts I have. Due to the responses i have been getting on people needing this and that instead of the entire lot, to be fair, I have decided to list these items on Ebay as individual auctions; Hood, Nose, Nose support, Trunk Lid , End caps , Grill, Hub Caps, Hub cap / gas cap Decals, Wood shift knob, ..... (I may keep the headlight brackets, buckets, and bumper extentions for a future project since the are not original parts) I plan on listing each item about 5 minutes apart , so if you decide to bid on more than one item, it can ben done easily. The auctions will start within the next few days. I will reply to this post once again once the auctions have started and will include links to the auctions, I will also try to email or PM everyone directly that has replied or traded emails with me. Thank you , and stay tuned PS. The Kelsey Hayes Steel wheels have been sold locally to a Chrysler guy
