First...I apologize if this has already been posted. (I attempted to post this, but can't seem to find it again to see if there were any replies) I have read the info in the archived threads, but would like to know how I can determine original drivetrain in a 67 GT500 automatic. I am aware the engine did not have a vin# stamp, so the block casting date can be compared to the car build date to determine if it "could" be original. I also understand the automatic transmission did not have a vin#. I am looking for informatin to help me determing if the engine, (automatic)transmission and rear are original to a 67 GT500. Rob, Post the casting codes for the engine block, heads, and whatever else you can find here. Pictures might help as well. Also, did you verify with the SAAC Registrar to confirm the car is indeed an original Shelby? Bill S.
Yes, it is in the registry. All numbers are correct for the car itself....Ford and Shelby stampings and plates. I understand the rear end will have the word "spec" stamped in it?
I would recommend that you find someone that is versed with 67 Shelby's to look at the car for you. You have some mis information. Some 67 GT500 did have VIN's . Most of the original 67 GT500 C6's I have seen had the Ford VIN too.There is a unfortunate history of people buying a problem car. It was not uncommon for these cars to be rode hard and but away wet. Not saying that is what you have there but for instance we have seen original parts put on a donor body's so that in itself (checking numbers ) is no safeguard . It takes more then a cursory examination to determine if there is a problem. It isn't wise to take short cuts when a high dollar car is involved. Just my 2 cents. The best of luck with the purchase.

Bob.....your reply is exactly why I'm looking for this information. I've seen pictures of the vin# stamped on 4 speed transmissions, but not automatics....where exactly is the vin# stamped on the C6?
Not certain if it is the same, but the VIN (partial) on the 69 C6 is located on a small pad on top of the transmission itself, just above and in front of where the cast iron (your transmission does have a cast iron tail shaft, right) tail shaft bolts on. Bill, that's a great picture and I appreciate it..I only wish it was of an original C6 from a 67 GT500. Maybe some one will be kind enough to post one of an original 67 GT500 C6. I do have a picture of the stamp location on a 4 speed, 67 gt500 transmission. By the way....Happy New Year
Lets start with some basics. Going back to Bills original question, what are the casting #'s on the trans? Is there an ID tag? What is the letter stamped in the servo? Dates on castings? Hi To a person with some important questions. Must agree 1000% that it is best to have a person with experience and knowledge of these cars go over this car with you. Just let us know where you are located with a private message and most likely we will be able to help you find someone that can inspect this car.It will be money well spent and should answer your questions.This is the simplest way and is a good investment both time and dollar wise. If you have not already done so,I would check with the 67 Registrar to search for any history or paperwork the club has.And also a Marti report is a wise set of documents to purchase.Good luck and keep us posted.
