1 of the 36 "R" Model 1965 GT350's #5R102 just sold yesterday at R-M Auctions for $900,000 Plus Commissions.....! I should have bought one when I was 6 years old.....!
hey thanks for the heads up...i combed the rest of the results and there was a 66 hertz black and gold that went for 104k -- which i thought was low and they had actually predicted that it would get 150-175 -- but there was 68 kr fastback -- highland green automatic car ...that fetched 225k -- i think that is a nice price on that car .... what do you all think? -- neelfryer
Used Rental cars historicaly have never done good at Auctions!!! seriously, maybe the Hertz had a lot of metal replaced or some other problems. Condition is everything. and with any auction, if you want to buy, go and examine the item first hand!
I did not check the online results to see what prices were listed. The 66 Hertz sold for $195,000.00. The 65 for $900,000.00, the 68 500KR fastback, auto $225,000.00, the Shelby team Cobra $1,600,000.00.
The prices do seem high but then I'm reminded of some of those B-J prices for clone hemi-cudas and that $1,100,000 Chevelle 'vert, and none of those cars have any pedigree to a legit racing history or team for that matter. Yeah, the Chevelle was a racer back in its day, but it was only for an individual dealer who decided to go all out at drag racing. The R models on the other hand would be described as a part of America's involvement in road racing, albeit the R's weren't raced [at least to my knowledge] on an international scene. However, they were linked to the Cobras, GT-40's and Daytonas.
Hi daltondavid Do you have a link to this auction so i can see pictures of the car? Would be very interesting. By the way is Rick Kopec a member here in this forum? How much would his car be worth today?? Thanks folks Bye Jerry
Wow..A friend bought a R model about a year ago in the 300K range. As for the LS6 vert that went for over a mil..That was a very cool car that won just about everything. Chrysler even built a car and sent it out to beat the Ray Allen Chevelle but it got eliminated before it even got to face off against the Chevelle. That is the King of the hill for Chevelles.
