Read an article which had Hau Thai-Tang stating that the new GT500 was going to cost in excess of $45K, and he's not talking pesos.

If he's not talking about the convertable $45k doesn't seem fair.

He's been doing nothing but cutting corners to keep the cost down i.e. not retooling so that it can be produced on the same line as the GT. Decal stripes instead of paint etc.

If he sets the price at $45k then I want the original concept car, not a GT with a larger engine.

Got a link to the article? Or the name of the mag it is in?

I heard a few weeks ago that the car, as always planned, is going to be less than $40k...and is definitely great fun to drive. (I don't know anything about the cost of the convertible.) But, Carroll said he put another 400 miles on the convertible about 3 weeks ago and enjoyed every minute of it.

"The hardest part of the Mustang is that it has unprecedented market positioning in terms of revenue. We have a V6 coupe that starts just below $20,000 and then we work all the way up to a Shelby GT500 that's probably going to be in excess of $45,000. So you're talking about more than a twofold increase and there are no other cars out there that do that."

Well, he should have a pretty good idea what it is going to be. Thanks for the link. Interesting article.

That doesnt sound very good !!! Over 45K for the GT500... If that is MSRP, then you get any dealer Mark Up and the TTL... Over 50K for a Mustang GT with a bigger engine.. and a different hood.

Hopefully This will not be the case... If it holds true, then some might have to consider going in another direction as to the next vehicle to put in the garage. This could have just priced me right out of the market for one.

    IM VERY DISAPPOINTED....

I think it's going to be a little more than a larger engine and hood. It is supposed to have a race inspired suspension take from the FR500C race cars, etc.

I would also imagine it would be considered a good value especially with all the compition coming out like the Z06.

Of course it is a little more than just a bigger engine and a new hood... i should have put in a sarcasim symbol.

If they are going to price it up that high then they shouldn't be cutting cost everywhere they can... And from the test mules... you dont see much difference between a mustang GT and the GT500 is my point... If its going to cost twice as much as a Mustang GT then it should stand alone as far as looks, feel, power, handling, ect.

But they orginally said that they are not in the market to compete with the Z06 or corvette, this is why the car would not be priced over 40K.
Mustang was built on the affordable American Sports Car theme, and could compete head to head with corvette's power and speed, but without the same price tag.

Trust me I love the shelby Concept mustang but to keep costs down the car lost it's identity and morphed into looking to much like a Mustang GT... and for that price tag most people will opt to spend the xtra $$ and go get the Z06. If the Shelby GT500, without all the cost cutting measures, is what makes it to the dealers, then the 45k is understandable and palitable, but from everything we have heard and seen, this is not the case... Therefore, the price becomes too much... The good news, this means there might be plenty of them sitting around collecting dust on the dealers lots...

But we will see what happens in Jan... and we will get all our answers.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------SOMETHING NEW?

These cars are still marketed and built by Ford. Carroll has given us the following number at Ford for the most up to date information on the car. 800-367-3788.

We are also working on an exciting upgrade package for these cars once they are released.

I saw that from Gary Patterson. A new mystery? What could it be?

I suspect the upgrade will be mostly cosmetic. The GT500 concepts have not had enough Shelby identity. I believe the upgrade package from Shelby Automobiles will correct that.

    Hi Gary,

Sounds great I'd like more details on the upgrade package. Will this be something available through FORD dealers or directly through Shelby Automobiles. And will it be available to those North of the border.

    Thanks for your help,

    Future GT500 Owner,
Currently on 4 Dealers lists and 1 Paid deposit list (Playing the game) Different stories from each and every dealer, the things you'll do for a car!

    Cheers,

With there sales going in the toilet and them cutting out 10 Factories and 25 to 30 thousand Jobs. Jacking the price up on this car seems stupid. Their losing more and more people and now there pissing off their loyal SVT owners. Still a beautiful car and I'll buy one but some just aren't that lucky to have that luxury. Think ford needs to pull their head out.

i saw this thread and signed up to add my $0.02 worth. i recently went to the chicago auto show and saw the shelby GT500 at the ford display. the guy giving the promo rant said that they were aiming for $40k. my guess is they will sticker for between $40-$45 w/o many extras to choose from (at least none i might want anyway). he also said something about 11.5 quater times, but i wasn't paying very close attention untill i heard the 11.5 mentioned (i didn't know this car was in the works so i was still in shock) so i don't know if that's a target, sim-run, real test, or what. but $40k for 12's or better in an all new SHELBY mustang... where do i sign?! :lmao:

HTT was talking about the price range of the Mustang. The $45K+ is for the a fully optioned convertable. Yes, there are not that many options but many of the threads, articles, etc that I have read have consistently put the convertable in the 44K-46K range so with all the options I can see that being true. The Coupe is still going to be around 40K MSRP...not counting the dealer AMV after that.

Im pretty sure it is a Shelby and Not a Cobra. And my dealer promised me that I could come touch it, and look at it, and even SIT in a 2007 Shelby GT500 when they get one in. And he said i could do it for FREE
