I really appreciate everyone's input on my brother-in-laws running hot problem. I spent most of the day working on his car and I retrieved the following data. Please let me know your opinion.

I checked top dead center to determine if possibly the harmonic balancer had slipped which might have caused me to have the car timed incorrectly. I determined the balancer is correctly marked and that the timing is set at 6 degrees BTDC.

I let the car run with a thermometer inserted into the radiator opening. It was obvious when the thermostat opened at 160 F at which time the water started to twirl around. I let it run somemore with the cap off to purge any air out of the system.

I checked the vacuum on the motor and it's 14-15 lbs . Not really sure if that means anything

I installed a manual temp gauge and took the following readings.

after letting the car sit a bit - at 12.00 noon the car was at temp 162 (in radiator) and in manifold from gauge reading 172

at 12.15 while idling at approx 600 the temp went to 180

at 12.30 the temp was 205

at 12.45 the temp went to 208 and it sustained that temp for an hour .

if I increase the throttle to say 2K the motor runs cooler (at about 190)

the outside temp was approx 55-60 degrees,

I used a different radiator cap but it didn't change anything.

I also did notice that the pressure in the upper radiator hose (after running a bit) was present but not to the point where it's hard to compress with your hand.I have other cars that seem to have more pressure.

What do you guys think. It's a 69 W 4V motor, bored 30 over, maybe 2 hours run time on the motor. 4 speed .Thanks Olaf
