I agree with most of what you say.
I disagree with the point that it will not hurt the hobby. keeping the parts
vendors and manufactures happy and healthy will do the best to keep the
parts we need available and keep the parts getting better over time all the while
    making the parts afordable.
I think the shelby organization is showing they are out of touch and money
hungery. the popularity of the cars has given carol the reputation he has and
has made his name marketable amd valuable which in turn has made him rich. for
this his following are bieng abused. frankly I have little respect for the
guy anymore as his buisness decisions have been terrable ones and he has made
himself to be an ass. he apparently does not care about us and does not care
how we percieve his decisions or he would be out talking about the course of
actions and getting the shelby crowd behind him.

warning: this is just my 2 cents and I make no guarantee that it is even
    worth that.

    67 drive shaft weight

Anyone have a feel for the weight of a typical steel driveshaft in a 67 with a small block automatic setup. Just curious on the weight difference between steel, aluminum and carbon fiber.

    Thanks.

The Cobras and Shelby Mustangs made in the 1960's left the factory long ago. Carroll hasn’t made a dime on these cars for over 30+ years. Carroll does not own the rights to the name "Cobra". (If anybody does, Ford does.) Any set of valve covers that say "Cobra, Powered by Ford" sold over the last 30+ years Carroll hasn't made a dime on. The name Carroll Shelby has market value but Carroll doesn't make any money on just a name until money passes hands that he has control over.

There is also a difference between Carroll Shelby and Carroll Shelby Enterprises, (CSE). Don't confuse the two. CSE is a corporation and they are listed on the stock exchange. It is CSE that wants to put a stop to the Shelby Mustang clones. CSE is not asking for more money out of the parts vendors at this time. CSE does not have control over the name Cobra. CSE does not have control over the shape of the Cobra body. They can't legally stop the kit car companies from building kit car Cobras. CSE does not have control over the shape of 1965-1970 Shelby Mustangs. They cannot prevent anyone from producing fiberglass for these cars. CSE does have legal claim over items that say Shelby, GT350 and GT500. They have a say so over emblems and such that bear any of these three names. CSE is not asking for royalty money at this point. They think they can stop people from building 1965-70 Shelby Mustang clones by restricting emblems and side stripes. They are out of touch with reality. Do you think this is going to stop the side stripe business? Don't you think the people who make side stripes will now leave out the names GT350 and GT500 out of the stripe and will now offer all letters from A-Z and all numbers 0-9 and sell them as Mustang side stripes so that you can spell the word "MUSTANG" or anything that comes to the owners mind from all the letters. As I said, CSE is out of touch. They don't want to cut off people from restoring real Shelbys, but they really can't stop you or me from what we want to do with our own non-Shelby Mustangs. The Branda's, Mustang Unlimited, NPD will adapt and there will be a problem in the short run but I don't see it affecting the real or clone Shelby Mustang market in the long term in my opinion. If you need to vent do it at CSE and the females running it, not Carroll.

  4. my point was that restricting the sale of putting confines on it will drive
prices up. the other thing I heard was that you may only be able to buy these
things through shelby. this would greatly drive the price up.
shelby has made his money not direct from the parts but rather the fame
associated with the name he has.
yes I know he made the most of him money through the goodyear tire deal, but
his fame for the racing and the cars bolster this

Gentlemen. I have only been following this with 1/2 an eye as I will soon
be Shelby-less, but perhaps the reason for this is CSE wants to make sure
the items going out are quality. Sort of like what Ford is doing with
anyone wanting to sell something that carries their brand name.

  8. I can understand that, but if that is the motive then they should be making
announcements to the public to avoid mis interpretation of their actions.
Their failure to do so makes them look bad and out of touch with the owners and
    enthusiasts.
