I'd like to disassemble my original shifter lever to have it rechromed and to repair the stretched reverse lock-out cable. Does anyone have a method on how to do this? Or is it one of those things you shouldn't try at home? Thanks, Dave

It's a "nasty bugger" kind of project; apparently VERY "fussy"--and frustrating--getting the cable disconnected from and reconnected (soldered connection) to the reverse lockout at the bottom end of the stick. Dick warned me about it (from his own experiences), and Steve & Mark can verify---Steve did this for Mark, and Mark sub'd out the rechroming. The one possible difference is that I don't think Mark's had a stretched cable...OTOH, I think Steve said something about clipping the excess off the end of the cable after re-soldering it...or was that a reference to how Ford did the original ass'y??? you must melt out the solder and then resolder once recromed. big PITA. I would first get the replacement cable from ford before starting. I thought someone was repoing the shift lever? bob

Dave- I've done a couple before and the cable part is pretty straight-forward. Biggest problem I've found is putting on new boots w/o ripping them. Getting them warm and lathering with ARMOR-ALL helps.
