Dave. I went to BJ in person for the first time yesterday. The shelby's involved were unremarkable. There were no 65's, no 66's a couple of 67 and 68 cars and one 69 that I saw. I had considered selling my 66 there but the no reserve thing is a little unsettling. The lime green modified 68 ended up selling for more that a stock appearing 68KR? Maybe it was timing. By the time the KR appeared, most of the crowd was long gone. In fact, most of the shelby's were sold very late in the auction. I have to think it hurt the sales. I also saw the black 69 428 mach. It was a nice car but I left with the reality that I had a totally different view of the car on TV the night prior. It looked specatular! In person, it was OK. Lots of touched up nicks and chips......and a recolor at that. I watched cars...my wife watched the people! We both had a good time. Oh. The BJ effect was never more evident watching the Superformance Daytone coupe sell for almost three times the normal price because of some signatures and add ons (mechanical bling). Dave Dave & Shelby Fans, I had the experience of working the B-J Auction, Thursday through Saturday PM. We volunteered to display our 67 GT with the FORD Company New cars. They positioned the car, at the entrance, with a King Ranch Truck. As for the Auctions: If you have any specific question, fire away. I inspected all of the 67-70 Shelby's for sale. Noticeably absent: NO 65 or 66 Shelby's, NO Convertible Shelby's, NO Boss 302, 351 or 429. Good cars brought good money, not extremely high. Pete, Not a shelby question but I wonder how Gary Wales felt about the 3 Bently's he sold. To me it looked like they came in really short of what he may have been expecting. No Reserve would be a big risk, in my book, on those cars. Unbeliveable cars for what I thought was low money. Guys, I can't say how Gary Wales felt, but I do have to say that I was very surprised to see his cars at a muscle-car oriented auction. I don't know what he was asking for the Blue Train Aero Coupe, but it was well-known in RROC, BDC, RREC, etc. that he was asking $2.5MM for the Franay and $500k for the Royale (B160EX, I believe). All are stunning cars that I'd seen at a couple of RROC National Meets. I did overhear Steve Davis telling Mr. Wales that the Franay was going to "the best home on the planet," for what it's worth. Amazing- my wife actually scolded me (by phone, of course) for not making a run at the Aero Coupe.
