Correct casting/part number for '67 GT500 air cleaner and valve covers?

Hey folks,

My car is a late car (#3193), I've seen S7MS-9600-A and -B setups, which
is correct? I've also seen some that have a black krinkle top like the
'68 cars, did any '67's come with black tops?

Also, since we are on the subject, what is the right number for the valve
covers? Do the original covers have the fin next to the brake master
cylinder shaved down for clearance like the repros. from Branda do?

Jeff ,the very late 67 GT500 like yours could have the base that didn't
have a provision for a breather elbow and had the pcv hose vented to a
vacuum fitting installed in the forward most intake manifold plug on the
pass side.or it could have the earlier type with the elbow and a cap
over the opening with the pcv hose vented as described before.The lid
was most likely black wrinkle painted like the 68. the valve covers have
"COBRA lemans" on one line with part of th lower fin shaved off for
master cylinder clearance. Hope this helps. Bob G

Jeff:

The underside of an original air cleaner base has the part number cast into
it S7MS-9600-B. The tops did not have a number cast into it because both were
considered one part. Original bases are generally easy to spot aside from the
part number because of the unique "webbing" pattern on the underside. I have
seen a few different Cobra tops as well, but the process in which they were
casted is very distinct.
The back side fin on an original drivers side valve cover had to be shaved
down in order to clear the brake fluid reservior.
There is a distinct difference between the driver and passenger side original
valve covers aside from the shaved down fin.
The driver side has a notched hole in the top for the oil breather cap.
The passenger side has a hole which is not notched for the PCV valve.
There have been Black painted original Cobra air cleaner tops on 67 500's
both on early and late cars.
