I found it! The first 1968 Shelby built. It is # 301. How do I know it's the first? It has the earliest date code and was the first car converted to 68 Shelby specs. I also have a memo from AO Smith that documents the car! I posted a picture on my website and will be updating the text soon. Check it out: www.1968cobra.com You probably saw the other car being sold as the "first", but it was the earliest one sold, this is really JOB #1.
Congrats. I need to get off my duff and get a Marti report, but even then it may not say anything. My car and another show the earliest date in the Registry for being delivered (Oct 31, 1966)
It's funny this subject came up, A couple of weeks ago I was looking at a 68 conv.350 # 302. Supposedly the first 68 -350 sold to the public [ also a 4 speed ]---S.
