Ugh, as if my e-break woes were not enough, now my car lacks motivation. I was pulling away from a stop sign, when the car stopped accelerating. I knew the clutch was going, but it felt like it had alot more in it. I have heard dodge trannys blow at 100,000, and i am at 102,000. I heard nothing when the whatever broke, but there was a noise like obese squirrels in armor under my floor when i tried to shift. So is this rumor true about dodge trans, or is it just my luck? thanks.
I bought a 86 Shelby Charger new, at about 18,000 miles it blew 3rd gear, I was taking off after I had turned in on a road, not running it hard (at that time ) and it made a hell of a noise right after I put it in 3rd, had to have it towed and repaired, thank god it was still under warrenty!!
Yea, I was considering that. I don't have the money so I am looking for a beater to get me to work/school, but it shouldnt take me long to save up to get something. So what should I upgrade to? Would the g-555 work, or is the not-stock factor not worth the improvement. I am considering just rebuilding the stock transmission. grumblegrumblemoneygrumble
You mean a-555 right?? if that is what you are talking about then yes this would be a much better tranny because it has the strong 4 pinion diff. it does have a different final drive tho. you'll just have to live with it unless u want to build a 520/555 hybrid.
The A-520 and A-555 are identical except for the Getrag gearset. Rebuilding your stock A-520 with the A-555 internals would be a great upgrade. That way you will still have your original transaxle case for "numbers matching" appeal. robin
yea, it would be great if I could learn the alphabet, eh? is there anywhere i can buy a-555 internals, or do i need to get a canibal transmission? If i need to go Dr. Lector, what can a scavenge from? thanks.
Well I wonder what happened to that tranny. The one in my '88 CSX-T is still going strong at 192K. I bought the car last year from the original owner and the only problem he ever had was the clutch started slipping so he had it replaced. You'll need to find a 555 out of a '87-'89 Daytona that had the T2 motor in it. Or a few Lebaron GTC's for '89 that also had them. Good luck!
The A525 in the GLHS's were usually fragile, but I've seen lots of abuse taken by A520's without any problems. My daily driver shadow see's 15-18psi regularly on it's 180k mile 520 without any complaints. The 555 is a little beefier, and has lower gearing which means a few higher rpms on the highway. If your looking for one the best place is in an 87-89 Daytona Shelby, the intercooled cars came with them. For other applications look here: http://www.boostbarn.com/model_vs_eng.xls
