Good evening everyone,. A friend of mine has been approached by an acquaintance in poor health who is interested in selling his prized vehicle that has been sitting in his garage for over a decade. It is a 1983 Aurora. We haven't seen the car yet but the guy has shown us all of his original factory paperwork including his original invoice for $41500. According to him, there was only 140 of these vehicles made in Canada and they may have been one of the first companies to try to replicate the original Shelby Cobra in the late 70's and early 80's,. According to the paperwork, the cars had a fiberglass body and came with a small block 302 Ford engine, 4 speed transmission and a suspension that looked to be an improvement on the early Cobras. I was hoping that someone in the group might be familiar with these cars and have an idea of what their value might be today. Look forward to hearing from you. They were Aurora GRX's, made in Canada. The body was 289 Cobra style (fiberglass I think) and the running gear was early 80's Mustang GT. They had 4 lug wheels, 4 speeds and smogger 302 2V's. I see one on E-bay occasionally and have see some advertised in the Shelby American Snakebite. I would love to have one to modify with more power and better suspension. They really looked like 289 Cobra's. Lee, Remember the one we saw at Purvis Ford in Fredricksburg, VA? It was an Aurora. Purvis was a dealer for them. John Sheally borrowed one to autocross a few times back in the early 80's. Lee, Sorry I haven't kept up with the list, so you may already have all the info you need already. The Auroras grew from a by-product of a luxury boat company as a companion for the luxu-barge and the man who had to have "ALL" the toys. Early ones had 4-bolt spidles,while later ones came with the standard 5 on 4 1/2 Ford pattern. Drive trains and suspension were Ford OEM and carried all the warrantees a Ford car would carry. As such, a major consideration with them over home-builts are they came CARB (emissions) certified. Their value relative to all the home-built 427-look-alikes has not kept up so they can be found as (many perceive) a good value. Like many turn-key replicas, they have a strong owner association, and there has to be a site on the Internet with better information than I can recite off the top of my head.
