Just like the title says.. There is one around me that is for sale pretty cheap.. Its red, turbo 2, 5 speed car.. It has 130,000 on it.. the weird thing about it is that it has the older front end on it with the 4 head lights and the older hood!! Had me confused but it looks pretty nice with the wrap around lights.. I checked under the hood and it doesnt look like its been wrecked.. The lady thats selling it has had the car for 7 years and is the 2nd owner.. she said when she bought it that guy who had it before her didnt like the pop up lights so he swapped that bumper and the hood.. The car is a 88 with the turbo 2 motor but the hood sticker says that the hood is off a 86 turbo car!! The body is pretty straight other then that..

Another weird thing is that the driver side door doesnt have the shoulder seat belt that goes to the door!! the passenger one does but the driver side has a regular belt with the lap and shoulder belt together!! My 88 daytona had the should belt that connected to the door and the lap belt that was seperate.. I checked out the door to see if it had been replaced but everything appeared to match in color.. so if it was replaced they did a good job painting it!!

other things I noticed is that when you turn on the head lights the highbeam setting is low beams and the low beam setting is high beams!! pretty weird but no biggie!! All in all the car is in pretty good shape appearence wise!! I know that not having the right front end and hood hurts it in value but I dont really care!!

I took it on a test drive and it ran okay!! I didnt mash on it or anything.. I saw 2 lbs of boost on the stock boost gauge.. The gauges seemed to work good.. the odometer doesnt work anymore.. it stopped at 94,000 but she told me the car has 125000-130000 miles on it.. like I said before it doesnt really matter cause its being sold pretty cheap and runs and drives.. She is asking 750.00obo..

Now the 3 things that do worry me.. The car seems to hesitate right when you start to accelerate from a stop!! This could be a fuel filter or air filter but the check engine light is on and she said the code is for the fuel injectors not working to there potential ( thats not her exact words but thats what I got out of it).. So bad fuel injectors!! the other thing is that when you get above 30mph there is a weird humming sound coming from the front end.. I thought it might be the tranny so I put it in neutral and let it coast and the noise stayed!! She just got it inspected last month and said the inspector told her that her front tires were wearing on the inside!! It sounds like when a lifted truck with huge tires is driving past you at like 50mph..And finally the oil pressure gauge!! 2 things.. the gauge dont work or the motor doesnt have any oil pressure!! The motor sounds fine.. Has a little tick in it but nothing to be worried about.. My 1st guess would be the oil pressure sending unit..

So thats about it!! Like I said I didnt beat on it or take it up on the highway since I only had 20 mins to look at it before I had to be to work tonight.. It seems like a pretty nice car that would only need a little work to get back up to par!! She said the exhaust has been replaced with a new cat last year.. not stock exhaust but not performance either.. so other than that the car is bone stock!! I am going to go back on Saturday to check it out again with a buddie of mine that knows alot about turbo cars.. I want to bring my ramps and drive the car up them to check out underneath.. so now some questions for you guys..

Do you think this is a good deal?? Would that driving noise be a CV axle or some drivetrain part?? Dont really know alot about front wheel drive cars..

    Thanks..

If you are looking for a parts car, it is probably ok. If you are looking for a driver, I would do just that, keep looking.

Noise is probably a bearing, intermediate shaft possible. Not a real big deal to repair.

I have seen some Chrysler cars in the junkyard with the strange seat belt combination you describe. It is just weird.

Buy it, if it dies you can part it out and make the money back.

Thanks for the advice.. I am going to go look at it again tomorrow night and take it out for a real test drive.. How many lbs of boost should I be seeing if it is a stock Turbo 2??

A stock TII peaks at 12 psi boost. Again, from your description, I would only consider this car for parts. For about $1500, you can easily find one that is complete with out all the issues you mentioned.

    Good Luck!
