Hi Mike, Please do look me up at the auction. I'll be there Friday afternoon, and all day Saturday and Sunday.
I got the Mecum Brouchure in the mail a couple of days ago. The Brouchure is a keeper. Great photos. I wish I had a bag of money to go bid on this car...
Haven't seen that brochure yet - assuming it's the one about all three Cobras at the Spring Classic. If you have broadband, you may want to download a 28-page deluxe version from http://www.shelbyford.com/news.html Also, I've had a number of people ask me what the Dragonsnake looks like today. Last Thursday, we finally got some sun that let us do a test shoot in preparation for the auction. Here are the results: http://www.shelbyford.com/auction.html I've had the Webers off the car and in separate storage for the last 30 years. A simple Holley was good enough for the occasional run up to operating temperature. With the help of two very dedicated and talented friends (both ex-racers), the car is now being fed by the Webers again. Forgot how good that sounded! Getting tougher every day to let her go.
Got the Mecum flyer yesterday. Great picture of your Dragonsnake on the cover. Good luck, I bet it brings alot.
Funny you should say that . . . I also got my Mecum flyer yesterday. Must have been in the mail for a good two weeks. Another one of Murphy's Laws: Make sure the owner gets his last! You're right, though, Mecum is doing an outstanding job showcasing the Dragonsnake. Speaking of showcasing, WBNG-TV came to Rochester this week to film CSX2019 for an upcoming segment of their "Wheels in Motion" series. See http://www.shelbyford.com/wimtoday.html for details and photos. The show is expected to air this weekend and will later be available for viewing at the http://www.WIMToday.com web site. The closer we get to Memorial Day, the harder it gets to part company with "Jezebel Blue."
The "Wheels in Motion" segment can now be viewed at http://www.wimtoday.com/news.asp?a=862 If the server is slow, download the clip by right-clicking on the image, then use "Save Target As ..." to view the video from your hard drive. The Dragonsnake arrived in Belvidere last Sunday.
Jim Cowles (www.shelbyparts.com) was the high bidder for a very private client, and the car sold for 1.5m (+ fees, dues and taxes) Good job, Jim!!! SGB
I heard this morning from someone there that Bill Murray was the proxy for Larry Miller (Miller Motor Sportspark). He is also the owner of the Utah Jazz. http://www.millermotorsportspark.com/
I think it was a good purchase for the buyer and a great term of ownership comes to a close with great financial rewards!!
you are correct -it was for Larry Miller - I am not sure he would have wanted that info (his name) posted in public but you let the cat out of the bag - not me! The car (and many others) will not be on display at the Shelby museum in Boulder, CO. 1.5m is a record for a 289 car
CSX2019 sold for $1,525,000.00 - a record for a DragonSnake, but not for a 289 Cobra. Last year, Larry Miller bought the factory comp road racer that's on the cover of the Rip Chords album "Hey Little Cobra" for somewhere around $2.2 million. Stephen, I hope your statement is a typo and should have read "will now be on display at the Shelby Museum." That's because I plan to visit CSX2019 there during the Museum Christmas Party in December.
My understanding is that it was/is public knowledge especially since it will be at the museum under his guidance. Great car, great purchase.
Mecum appears to be just what they claim to be!! I am happy for you and everyone else who enjoyed success at the sale!
It was GREAT seeing CSX2019 on display at SAAC31. It was one of several things that made my weekend. Thanks to everyone who made the display possible!!!
I smile at this car every time I see it at the Shelby American Collection in Boulder. I hope the Miller family will let it stay.
I know the feeling,it's a bit hard to let go after having it for many years. The car has a nice and high value so i'm sure it will have a great bid at the auction.
This car has belonged to the Larry Miller Collection since it was purchased at the Mecum auction!! It is currently on display at the Shelby American Collection in Boulder, CO. There is no plans at this time for the car to go to aution. Joe
Yes, I believe the auction mentioned in this topic was quite some time ago. Larry H Miller who owned the Utah Jazz and Miller Motor Sports in Salt Lake had the car on a long term loan to the Shelby American Collection in Boulder. I say "long term" because it's been there every since I started going. It's a great looking car (in my top 5 Cobras!)
