OK experts. I have a 68 KR convertible. I also have a surfboard. So what do I use for the two straps that will hold it down to the roll bar and windshield. I know they came with neat straps to begin with, but they are long gone. Don't really want to use bungee cord for show purposes (I'm way to old and far away to use the surfboard). Any ideas on some cool looking straps to use for show? Thanks for any ideas. Had it out today in West Virginia for a little show at our local dealer. Said he had 2 new Shelbys coming in and both were available. Didn't say the markup thought, just were taking offers. Dan Wilcox
Dan, I think bungees would work best as most straps do not have the give to them to hold something down without stressing the loops on the roll bar. I had some great looking straps I used in my car; I don't know where they came from originally, and she took them with her when we broke up. We used to make them out of dog leashes, woven fabric, hook on one end and clip for the collar on the other end. Don Perry and Jim Osborn made some and repo'd the tags from Samsonite luggage similar to the originals, or so they said. Keep in mind, anything you use on the front that goes from visor bracket to visor bracket will allow the board to lift at highway speeds. You might need additional strap down to the shifter or around the center visor bracket. Are you color keying the board? Some folks paint the board body color with stripes to match the car's stripes. I prefer the natural look of a foam covered with glass board and paint the stripes body color.
