Friend is restoring early 67 GT350 (can't remember the # but in the first 200 cars). Has the lights in the vent scoops. Someone had cut the wiring in the past, we're trying to confirm these are running lights and not blinker or brake lights. I say running lights. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Kylem

Flip a coin. Shelby literature from 1967, the brochure with the lime green Shelby on the cover, states "eye level brake and turn signals". Sounds like the scoop lights, no?
But at SAAC concours I am always busted for wiring them that way. And, I even seen them wired that way on another survivor 67 Shelby at the Elkhart Lake SAAC convention.
So, the SAAC judges will tell you to wire them as running lights. I think that's wrong. So, get the coin out.
He must have a car with a vin lower than #200. And from Ebay observations, these light got spotty installation after car #160.

I owned 67 GT350 #165 and it did not have the lights. I bought the car from the original owner and asked him specifically about them. he said they were never on there.

This is one good thing about Ebay. I've seen either car numbers 160 through 164, or it might have been car 166 through 170 on ebay , and those five did not have the lights. Also, cars higher than 175, it got spotty too.

My car, (#0036): The wiring was broken in the trunk that runs to these lights, so, I really couldn't tell. And, the fellow I bought it from thought these light were ho-key, so he left the lenses in the glove box. I like ho-key.

So, early 67 owners, how are your lights wired??

I owned car #0004 a few years ago and the lights operated with the brake and turn signals. So here is another vote for that! ;)

At SAAC 29 when my car got it's gold award in Div II concours, the judges suggested that I wire them as running lights. I don't know. I showed them the sales literature.
Dave Mathews deals with registration/history. I'll bet he'll leave his hands off this one.
I'd really like to hear from somebody who worked at S/A back then, and which way did they wire them.

Kylem: These are true running lights - they should flash when you use the turn signal and come on solid when you brake. Let me know if there are any other questions that an original owner can answer.

I believe that the first 160 cars had the running lights.

It has been a few years since I had my car but I seem to remember that truck supply shops sell a light that is very similar in appearance to the one's Shelby used. I am pretty sure the lenses are interchangable. You can check into it and let us know. B)

They were made by Deist, the lens show part #301.....I called a truck supply place here in Orlando, and he said to bring it down, and we could compare....

I am personally not looking, just trying to help a fellow owner...
They were a truck marker light....

I was going to ask the same question. My lights are wired as signal/brake lights. Car is #0031 I would still like to know what was done originally at the factory. The lenses are available through truck shops. I have the original bags they came in. Will have to look for them though.

I was looking through some boxes and found the bags that the upper scoop lights came in.
    The bag reads: Signal-Stat Lighting

    8945
    Signal-Stat
    77-82304
    44V Dietz

I would check at Napa or any parts stores and also heavy truck parts places ie: Kenworth, Freightliner, etc.

    Good Luck
    Randy

I'm beginning to believe they work with blinker and brakes. What do you mean by "true" running lights? Are they on with the park lights and blink. I havn't looked to see what type of bulb they use.

    Thanks for all the help.

A friend of mine currently owns car #0004 and the lights still operate with the brake and turn signals like it did when you owned her.
