Hi all, My special-order Yellow KR is in at the shop for bady and paint. They are still at the disassembly stage at the moment. They are working on the hood, and have run into some problems. I knew that the louvers were cracked, they said on stripping it they basically fell apart. Now I definately want to keep the original hood - they said that the louvers are repairable, but that the repair work would show inside. They recommended painting the entire underside black to match the scoop, rather than the original yellow, as this would hide the repair work much better. Now, my plans for this car do not really include showing it - I want to keep it as original as possible, but I also want it to look great to the lay-person. So what do you think? Original colour but with repair work more visible? Black to hide the repair work? Another option I haven't considered? Re: Shelby interior Hi guys If I wanted to give my interior a touch up with out it looking stupid. What products do you use. It is almost perfect outide of a few seat bellt marks on the consil and a few nicks in the back from the usual " I'll throw the bag in the back" . I heard that there was a revolutionary re-pigment process from a European company that some of the guys are using. I just want to freshen it up with out changing it or screwing up. Chris, as trick as that car is ,if it were my car I would find another hood. A all blacked out hood would stand out like a sore thumb to any knowledgeable enthusest and it is not original as you remaked you wanted to be. You can put the KR air chamber on a regular 68 Shelby Hood and if they are doing a professional job they would take the chamber off any way . I know many talented fiberglass people that could make a job like repairing louvers look very close to being invisible. I am sure others do too but it takes talent first and time ( which means money). That is why another hood might make more sense from a dollar stand point. Hope this helps Bob G. I was able to pick up a broken repo hood a while back when I was at a mustang parts vendor one time. I could not take the hood but only needed the louvers so we broke them from the rest of the hood. I think I got them for about $50. we grafted them to the otherwise good stock hood. see what you can find bob
A few years ago one of the vendors acquired a fair assortment of misc components that went on to become part of a larger assembly and vents were part of that assortment. They sold some on eBay and elsewhere. I don't remember who it was... Branda or Perogie? Perkins? As pointed out earlier, they could (should) be repaired with little notice, but it would take several hours if not a couple of days to do it... It sounds like your body folks don't feel up to the task. Hi all, Thanks for the responses. I had a long chat with the "glass man" today. As several people had mentioned, the "look" of the repairs really come down to time (i.e. money). His #1 priority is how it looks from the outside, and running a close second is - robustness. He doesn't want (and neither do I!) to make the repair, only to have it crack and break again. His recomendation was to fiberglass the inside of each louver, to make them strong and more resistant to cracking again - but, that doesn't look as clean underneath, hence the suggestion to paint under the hood black. They did this on another KR that they are just finishing up, but that one was a dark green, so the black under-hood didn't look bad at all... Anyway, after our conversation today, he is going to go ahead and make the repairs as clean as possible underneath, while not compromising the strength of the repair itself - and we are going to go for body-colour under the hood. The good news is he is also very pleased with the overall state of the 'glass - which hopefully will translate to less prep time, and so less $$$s!
