My 68 GT500 had "427 Compit. Model No. 907" stamped on a Shelby VIN tag rivited to the drivers door. Clearly someone went to a lot of trouble to try to make this car look like a "factor 427" which I feel sure was never really built in 1968. The tag was there in 1981 when I bought the car. Guy I got it from said he didn't do it, guy before him says he doesn't remember the tag but the 427 engine was there when he owned the car. Has anyone else seen such a fake job, curious if this might trace back to a dealer install? The car has a 68 427 in it, I'm putting a 428 in it, 427 is going into the 67 GT500. Always wondered who tried to pull this fast one or if its a dealer install. The VIN tag on the door is the Shelby tag where the box outlined enough room for two lines of print unlike the one under the hood. I've since pulled it from the car but I kept it for fun. By the way, my Shelby VIN ends in 907. Car was build in December.
