Early 67 GT350 Lights in vent scoops?

    No kidding! Small world. I had heard that it went to Texas. How is he treating her? I miss that darn car. One of those that got away that I should have kept! :doh:

    #5 is also wired as brake/turn. :)

    We need to have a meeting forum for the early car owners.....too many differences from the later cars...Never seen this many early car owners in the same place...

    #0004 is being treated very well by my friend. She is absolutely a gorgeous Shelby and she is in good company sitting in his collection of a ’66 Shelby GT-350 Hertz, ’68 ½ Shelby GT-500 KR convertible and my old ’68 ½ X-Code California Special that he bought from me several years ago. #0004 is my dream Shelby. Now if I could only talk him out of it.:thumbsup:

    Glad to here it is doing well. When I bought that car in 1997 is was in a million pieces, literally. It was all there though! I put it back together and did all of the resto work including the paint. Gotta love that dark moss green. I had to scratch a bad itch for a 68 Shelby convertible so I let it go. My wife was even upset at me for selling it, which is unusual. She has seen so many come and go that she does not get attached to them. That car was most likely the first '67 completed and shipped. It went out the door in October 1966 and was an original "SA Showing Car" That car had ALL of the unique pieces that were on the early cars including one very unique one. It had a hood prop rod and the tabs for the hood springs were cut off of the hinges. It had the usual early one piece grill, no grille emblem, early underdash pod with the filler plate screws, Roll bar rubber that flared out to meet the interior panels so no donuts were needed, metal frame reinforced hood and trunk lid, hidden four point roll bar, scoop lights, tailight panel, valance cut outs with trim rings...you name it, it's on there! It is all documented in the registry. Tell your buddy to take good care of it! :D

    Replying to general commets:
    1) "Showing Car" meant that it was at the dealer on the introduction day for 67 Shelby's in early November.
    2) My car has all this early stuff mentioned above, and also 66 Shelby sill plate emblems, and a 66 Mustang shifter knob (knob is not on right now, not concours correct he-he)
    3) the one piece grill ended about car number 100, but I have seen other earlier than that with 2 piece grills.

    WOW! Thanks for all of the history. I will be sure to pass all of this along to him. I knew of several of these things, but not all of them. Don’t worry; he takes exceedingly great care of his Mustangs. I am not really a fan of “green” Mustangs, but I do love that Dark Moss Green. It is absolutely a killer color. I have driven #0004 on several occasions and she is a lot of fun to drive. That car got into my blood. You did a great job on her. :thumbup:

    Hey Rod,
    Where does it say on that brochure about the eye level lights? I was just looking at my brochure, the small fold out with the Lime Green Shelby going by on the front cover. Is that the same one you are referring to?

    My GT500 #314 has the scoop lights wired as just
    running lights. (no directional or stop) There is only a single
    filament bulb in the socket. Of course I am the 4th owner
    (owned it since 1986) so who knows what may have been changed
    on it in the 19 years before I owned it. I didn't take pictures of the
    interior when I had it apart but the wiring looked original as far as I
    remember. It was built on 12/21/66.

    My 67 GT350 (#0083) has the scoop lights wired for brake/turn.

    Hi to all on this thread! This has been discussed many many times,and as we now see from original owners and other sources...they were originally wired as stop/turn indicators.This was one of the biggest reasons that the California DMV did not approve of Shelby's modifications to the 67's The state has very specific guidelines on lighting---stoplamps cannot be modified,and headlamps must have a minimum distance between them.They were originally made by R.E.DIETZ and they are known in the trucking industry as clearance lamps,available as red/amber.DIETZ is now out of business.The replacement is interchangeable with the original..but the lense lettering is not the same.And as with any "EARLY" feature,most are done by production date..so the car number(s) will be inconsistient.It would be more accurate to say or give a date of production,rather than a Shelby vin.Most cars with scoop lights were produced from October-January.:)
