Well I just bought a 1986 Daytona Turbo Z C/S.. It needs some work but runs and drives alot better than the 88 I was looking at.. the guy I bought it from also gave me a turbo 2 head, intake and turbo.. Would I be able to install the tubo 2 intake on my turbo 1 motor?? IS there any difference between the turbo 1 head and the turbo 2 head??
The diference between the heads is the Turbo II head has additional coolant passages. You can use it on a Turbo I motor but would need to use a Turbo I head gasket. The intakes should be an easy swap. The Turbo II intake has provisions for a charge sensor. You can plug that sensor for a Turbo I application. robin
Cool thanks.. So the intake will just bolt on?? I will have to plug up that sensor but other then that it just bolts on with no additional mods??
I think you may have to modify the exhaust manifold also. I seem to recall that either you need a TII exhaust manifold or do some minor grinding of the stock piece for clearance. Hopefully some one can chime in and give you a better response. robin
There are computer differences also. The 86 LM's are tuned specifically for the way the T1 intakes flow. T2 LM's are specific to T2 components. Yes there is an air temp sensor. I would suggest collecting all the T2 parts (radiator/intercooler, LM, injectors, exhaust mani... etc) and doing a conversion. You run the risk of two cylinders (3 & 4 I think) running lean. BAD for these engines.
