After a year or so of looking for a DYI exaust kit for my 66. I decided to try Dr. Gas after hearing so many good things about them on the Boss 302 web sight. Here is what I had. A Branda system from about ten years ago. Good for a 225 hp Mustang, but restrictive for a boosted Shelby. First off if you are planning on doing this buy some stright pipe. The kit came with enough curved pieces but not enough stright pipe. Plan on doing alot of cutting and splicing. I guess Dr. thought the drivers side was 4.5 inches longer than the passenger side. After a day and a 12 pack this is what I have now If I can find some pipe I hope to finish Sunday Larry
I like what www.pypes.com has to offer. Dr. Gas looks like a bit of a headache without a lift handy. be sure and post your outcome!!
Day two, found some stright pipe and made a intermedate to the muffler on the left side. Time to fit the tail pipes. Added 2" to the passenger side to get it where I wanted it at the rear valance. Looked great, followed the lines of the fuel tank and lower quarter. Removed 2.25" on drivers side before I could even get the pipe to fit under the car. Now that I can get the tail pipe under the car, I see that the driver side hangs 2" lower than the passenger side and the turn down on the drivers side is 1" longer than the passenger side. Now I needed to remove 2" from the section that runs from over the axel and trim the turn down 1". With all this extra trimming the drivers side is now 1.25" to short. Now I have every thing where I want it, my exaust looks like Frankinstien's third-mimber. I replaced the factory system because it was very restrictive and too quite. The whole time I was remembering my 69 GT 350 with Flowmasters. Sounded great at idel, but sucked going down the road. Finally started it up.Took it for a drive. At idel it's loud. You are not going to sneak in with this system. The whole time the car was warming up I was thinking " This is so loud I am going to hate it. I won't be able to hear the radio. Looks like I will be tring something else." After going for a drive, I love it. Sounds nasty at idel and pulling up to 7500 rpm( car wants to do more, but I am chicken) cruising down the highway the Spintecks do a great job of killing the dreaded drone. Don"t know that I would want to do it again, but glad I did it now! Larry
