What do you guys think of this? I went to Pace Ford in Huntington Indiana in February to enquire about the GT500 and was told that I was the first person to ask about the car. I was told by my salesman and the manager that if I put $1000 down that I would be the first person in line and would be able to buy the car at MSRP when it arrived. So I put down $1000 on the car and waited a couple of months. I then went in to place the order the first day SVT said orders could be placed. They found the order form and the options but no price. I said thats fine lets just get it in. So they called their Rep at Ford and spoke to him about placing the order. During the call their Rep said that they should talk to the owner (Joe Pace) first. They then said they would find out more and get back in touch with me. So I waited about 2 weeks longer and called back and left a few messages without a reply. So I decided to call Mr. Pace myself. He told me that they did not have the order form yet and that they would call me as soon as the order could be placed. In between then and now I had called about 15 times and only received about 1 call back. They kept avoiding my calls. I called the last 3 days in a row and left messages and finally today I received a reply. I was told that Mr Pace decided that the 1 car they will be getting will be auctioned off. That I could just come and pick up my down payment as it was no good now. They apologized repeatedly saying this wasn't their decision but that it was Joe Pace. My question to you all is this. Since we had a verbal agreement that if I put down $1000 that I would get the first GT500 they got in at MSRP is there anything that I can do about it? My $1000 was tied up for 4 months on this deal. Thanks, craven
It's called an attorney.. I would take any and ALL paperwork you have to one and see what can be done.
Unfortunately it was only verbal agreements due to the fact that they had no concrete info on the car at the time of the deposit. I've been told that the verbal agreement is as binding as a written but just harder to prove.
Just read this. This is total Horse Crap. You were smart enough to go in there early and ask and you get penalized because he wants to squeaze $10k+ more out of the deal. Joe F--- Pace needs to ask himself if you are anyone you know will ever buy another car from him. I would tell everyone I know what happened. Total B.S.. Mike
Friend of mine had the same thing happen on a 94 Cobra pace car. Luckly he got his deal in writing. All it took was a call from his attorney. Problem solved. When making any deal even with friends, once there is an agreemant, get it in writing. It really helps bad memories. Good luck, Larry
I was just on E-Bay 20 minutes ago and saw a bid go to $90,000.00 I was like I can't believe this crap, it's a $35,000.00 car at BEST. I just got my Road & Track and the GT500 just got handed it's A$$ by the new Vette and the Vette with ALL it's options is ONLY $57,000.00. Ok you're ALL right I would NEVER own a Chevy but that's just SICK. Somebody with a ton of money needs to sue Ford for unfair business practices. What does Carrol Shelby have to say? I can't believe he would allow the use of his name on something that's being sold so unscrupulously,by a company that at one time tried to bankrupt him. Mustang's have always been a sports car anyone could afford, and the Shelby's were at least reachable by those that couldn't afford a Vette. The thought of a car that can't be raced in SCCA events due to it's supercharger, makes it kind of hard to argue why you would want a Shelby other then it's "brand" name. I hope that when the smoke clears and Ford ends up with a bunch of GT500's that NO ONE in thier right mind would pay for, that they wake up and start selling cars more like Saturn. Ok sorry for another Rant
Ranting is fine as long as you are making sense!! FORD has nothing to do with Dealer's marking up their product. FORD creates an M.S.R.P. (for those of you that do not know the meaning, "Manufacturer's suggested retail price") and what a Dealer does with the car once it has been designated to them is their right. do I like it? NO!! does it happen with other Car's? YES!! Concert Ticket's, Superbowl Ticket's whatever is "IN" at the moment will always command a premium. as for comparing a Corvette to the GT500, that is Apples vs. Oranges. bring on that new Camaro. or put a Back seat in the Vette to even things up!! with minor upgrades, the GT500 will be a monster. actually it already is. I ordered a 2007 GT500 Convertible and paid $7500 over MSRP. why? because I wanted to. do I care what Road & Track, Car & Driver or any other Magazine has to say? NO! If I cared what Magazine's had to say, I would not eat the food I eat, I would send my Kid to Military school, and my wife would have a home based business stuffing envelopes making $1000's of Dollar's weekly!! will I be Racing Corvettes every time I pull out my Garage? highly unlikely, but not impossible. How's that for Ranting??
It's not a one year only car and approximately 7000 will be built this year and probably another 7000 in 2008. No reason to hurry the prices will come down just like they did when the 2003 SVT cobra came out with 395 HP. Just like the Ford GT prices came down. Nothing wrong with paying up a little to get one now and enjoying it while others wait for prices to drop its all a matter of personal preference in my opinion. I was disappointed and surprised with the performance numbers in the magazine article but I still will buy one and mod it to get it where I want it to be. Tons of potential in these motors waiting to be unleashed.
I heard & read 9,000 will be built for 2007 & they will make more in 2008 & 2009 (Ford just don't know how many for 08 or 09 yet) depends on demand I guess?
Two ways Ford could go about this I guess. Either build more cars or charge more for the ones they build. Personally I would like to see them make less cars and charge a little more to make them a little more rare long term. Besides the ones that get totalled in accidents you can bet many of these cars will not rust into oblivion or be stored in barns and forgotten for 30 years. People who are buying these will keep them all pristine. I doubt you will see many 2007 Shelby's in 20 years that need total restoration. Mike
I think they should make as many as they can so everyone has a chance to get one at a reasonable price and get to enjoy driving a Shelby. When I get mine I intend to drive it hard (the way it is intended to be driven). If I was looking at it as an investment then I would buy another older one that is already increasing in price. Just my opinion.
