Hello, I am new to this forum and want to say hello to everybody. I have not I have been asked to install the entire engine, fuel injection system and cooling system wiring harness on a new Cobra with a FE engine. This is not a replica. I want to get it right the first time. The vehicle owner and shop owner have decided to utilize a F.A.S.T. ECU, an MSD crank trigger, and other aftermarket components. Because there are different manufacturers, different connector types and other various differences it has been quite the project. But a fun one to say the least. We have overcome all of the compatibility issues and are beginning the installation. This is indeed a custom harness in every sense of the word. This harness must be installed very discretely. Our goal is to limit the exposure of the harness as much as possible. That means I will need to disguise it to appear as much like the original harness as I can. Can anyone tell me where I can obtain the wiring retainers used at the factory during manufacture. These are the loops that hold the harness to a given panel. I have access to several different styles but cannot get my hands on the ones that are identical to those that are on the car now. I can supply a photo of one tomorrow if it would help. Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure who did the Cobra wiring but I believe Ken Ruebin's (sp?) family did most of the Ford harnesses of the 60's. He does the recreation (they are too good to call repro) harnesses for the Mustangs now under the name of Alloy Metal Products. Another top notch harness manufactuer is RI wiring. They will build anything you provide drawings for. Tim
Thanks Tim, I appreciate your the time and information. We have found that Fastenall has similar looking pieces... we'll see how they compare when they come in. Gilbert
Hello again, For what it is worth... The FAST Fuel Injection - E/DIST Ignition system unique and custom installations are complete. The shop owner and I will load the tunes and do some preliminary tests and adjusting to the EFI Tables, fuel pressure, hall effect sensor etc.. tomorrow morning. The owner of the car asked to be present when we fire the engine so looks like that is friday or saturday. If any of you would like to see some pics of this project just reply here and I'll get a few posted. The car is not completed and will need a few more weeks of finish out, but it will hit the chassis dyno after we warm it up and deem it safe for a few pulls. Then it will be goodbye until it comes back for final harness wrapping and detailed installation.
