I will soon be replacing the Hertz wheels on my none Hertz car with 10 spokes. The car hasen't had the Shelby drop done, but it is soon to be done. I am currently running 195/75 14s on the Hertz wheels. Is anyone running anything larger without problems on thier 66. Thanks Larry
Re: Tires (again) Yes tires Again!!! i do not have a 66, but i will be putting tires on my car. I hope you get an answer soon.
Re: Tires (again) Yes tires Again!!! I am running P215/60R14 Goodyear Eagle HP's on my 66 with original 10 spokes. I have the 65 front A-arm geometry change and the rear leaf eye straightened to balance the height. IMO this is still a conservative sizing and does not contact the wheelwells under load. j
Re: Tires (again) Yes tires Again!!! 225/50ZR-15 Toyo RA1s on 15x7 Vintage 45 wheels. I get a minor amount of rubbing under *maximum* adhesion corners. I have the front drop and the rear has a 1" lowering block installed. LS
Re: Tires (again) Yes tires Again!!! I have 215/60/15 Yoko's on mine with Shelby Cragars. Love them and no rubbing.
Re: Tires (again) Yes tires Again!!! Tire sizes for '66 Shelbys fall into a small group. Since I own an early or carryover '66 (6S188) my experience is with 15" wheels. I have used the stock steel wheel: 15" x 6" with a 215 x 65 VR15 tire. This size tire ( 26.1" diameter ) closely matches the original Blue Streak's tire diameter. This keeps things at normal ride heigth. Next, I used a 15" x 7" R- Model wheel with a 235 x 60 VR15 tire. This size tire has a diameter of 26.1" as well. Again, keeping things at normal ride heigth. Currently, I have just installed my newly restored Shelby Crager wheels. Since these wheels are 15" x 6", I went back to the 215 x 65 VR15 tires, keeping the same ride heigth. These 2 sizes of tires seem work quite well. The Shelby sits at normal ride heigth and there is no interference issues. That means no rubbing on the stock fender lips. Depending on whether you are going to use a 6" or 7" wide 15" wheel, one of these two tires should work. shlby66. '66 GT350 #188
Re: Tires (again) Yes tires Again!!! I've just gone thru this process Larry. I was running 215/60R/15 BFG Comp T/A which are no longer avail in New Zealand. From receipts i got with the car it looks like these tyres had been on for in excess of 12 years and were as hard as - no wonder is would wheel spin at the slightest hint of aceleration....(well - it was a good excuse to my wife lol ) Ive now gone to 215/60/15 BFG g-Force Sport's which sit really nicely on the 15inch cragars....as you can imagaine we are not spoilt for choice with quality american tyres downunder at an affordable price . It's had the shelby 1inch drop and someone over the years has rolled the top of the fenders so there is no hint of rubbing. If you have a user friendly tyre centre and they are happy to spend a little time swapping wheels and tyres(and will take care of your rims), get them to try a 225/60/15 but do try full lock . cheers Graeme.
if you going to the '66 10 spokes, they will be 14". '67 & '68 10 spokes will be 15". I have had experience with the 14" '66 spoke wheels as follows: 225's will contact the upper A arm slightly under full lock conditions. No issues with 215's (or narrower) in front. 235's fit in back with room to spare. What are you going for, vintage look or performance, or a compromise between the two? Z. Ray 6s1117
