Ok, this is gonna get a bit boring for some of you, but I have to get to the bottom of this.

I need new tires for my 67 350. I am told that 225/60/15 will fit, and that seems to be what many people have used on their similar cars. However, some years ago, I borrowed a set of Magnum 500s with 225/60/15 tires (from a Boss 429!), and the rears touched very slightly on full bump.

Could it be that Magnum 500s have a slightly different offset to Magstars? I think Magstars have a 4.25 inch offset - does anyone know the figure for Magnum 500s?

I also read somewhere that 235/60/15s look better (more like the original factory fit tires). Can anyone confirm that they have fitted these to magstars on a 67?

Many thanks for your help with this.

    Re: Tires (again)

I ran 225/60/15's on my '67 with Magstars and never had any problems. I don't know about the 235's.

Have 235-60-15 Goodyear Eagle GT II on the 500.
    Also new springs installed.
Not yet road tested with the new springs but do not expect any problems.

rtmc - are the 235s on Magstars or 10-spokes? Have you done the front suspension 'drop' (upper A arm)?

Do you have any photos of the side view of the car?

    Thanks

Magstars. We cut 3/4ths of a coil off the front springs. No Shelby drop.
Will post a picture later today.

Rick - your car looks great! Just to clarify, you have 235/60/15s and 3/4 coil cut off the front coils?

Yes, that is correct. The springs are from NPD for the big block car with ac.
    Thanks for the comment

Keep in mind that shortening the spring will increase the spring rate which will have an affect on ride quality. It'l be interesting to hear how you like that setup. I also have the 235's on Magstars on the 67 and so far no issues.

We hope to have the car on the road after this weekend when the instrument cluster is re-installed. The tach did not work and was recently repaired.
We cut one-half coil off the original springs on the 67 GT 350.
Sometimes, there is a slight rub when turning into an incline.
    The tires are speedway 350's.
We like the ride and handles as good as it gets with bias ply tires.

    Currently I have 235 x 60 VR15 tires mounted on 15" x 7" R-Model
wheels on my newly restored '67 GT350. I must tell you that the fenders
are rolled. Not so much for clearance, but for looks. It gives a real
agressive look to the car and the wheel/tire combo fills out the relatively
large wheel wells ( compared to a '65/'66 Shelby ) very nicely. Did you know
that Shelby "rolled" most of the front fenders on 1967 Shelbys? Also,
there was a service bulletin to the Ford dealers to roll the fenders ( front )
if there was a customer complaint for tire rub. If your '67 Shelby still has
it's original front fenders; right at the top of the wheel opening, reach in
and feel where the factory "rolled" the fender lip up for about 6 to 8 inches.
Thought you might like to know.

I've been trying to find a table of standard factory fit tire widths and diameters compared with modern tires. The best I've come up with is this -

    http://www.kelseytire.com/pages/preformancetires.html

I currently have some old G60-15 coopers on my car, so looking at the table on this site, I can see that the G60 has a similar section width, and a slightly larger diameter than a 235/60/15, so the 235 should be fine on my '67.

Well done to Kelsey Tire for producing this table and particularly for manufacturing these old-style tires. I'd love to fit the original Speedway 350s back on my car, but the performance of modern tires is just so much better than tires from the '60s, and the last thing I want is to lose the car on a wet road!

Thanks for everyone's input on this subject.

I have 225 60 15's with Torque Thrust D's at all 4 corners. Front A arms dropped 1", lowering springs 1", and factory rolled fender lips. .[IMG]

    Wow! that looks fantastic!

I will certainly do the upper A arm relocation, but seeing your car makes me wonder about cutting the front coils as well.

You've done it with 225s; I wonder if 235s would clear the front.

    Hi All,

I am currently running 235/60s on the front and 255/60s on the rear of car number 0100. Wheels are 15x7 KH Magstars.

Got any pictures you could post Eric? I'd love to see how that looks!

    Any suspension mods?

    Hi,

The front upper control arms have been lowered an inch and a half and have the Pro Motorsports Engineering negative wedge kit installed. The springs are 460-600# variable rate Eibachs that have not been cut. I run the one inch thick polyurethane insulators. The inner wheel opening lips have been rolled and flattened. The tires clear just fine.

Nothing fancy in the rear. Everything is in the stock location. Springs have been changed to 165 lbs/inch. I do not run lowering blocks. I have installed a three quarter inch rear sway bar and under-ride traction bars. The tires clear just fine.

I can't seem to figure out how the re-size my digital pictures to a size that I can post on the forum. Send me a PM with your regular e-mail address and I will send you some pictures.

    Eric

Eric - I've sent you a PM with my email address.

How does the car behave with the rear sway bar fitted? I have one from a '70 Boss 302 in my garage just begging to be fitted by I'm told it would encourage the care to oversteer (loose at the rear). Did you find this with yours?
