my 67 gt350 lost its power steering along time ago. I just aquired the power steering cooler. But, beyond that, I have nothing. Can you guys give some advice on what to look for when buying the correct shelby components? For instance, what is the differences between the Shelby PS pump and pulley and regular Ford? Maybe someone has the components for sale. Thanks.
Re: Need power steering As far as the pumps go, there might have been a difference, but, 40 years later I'm sure a whole lot of pumps have been replaced with no ill effect. The pulley is a different matter. The original is 7" in diameter. They rarely show up on Ebay. Repops also rarely show up on ebay, some of those are machined out of a peice of billet so watch out. The next largest pulley is 5 1/2" off of the early Bronco (how do I know this??) I do think there might be a supplier for these but I do not know who it is. The hoses, due to the cooler, are just not the same as the Fomoco service manual shows, but, do route the same from the power cylinder/control vavle. IF, you are going to use a Cobra aluminum oil pan, you have to modify the hose bracket on the left suspension area.

Re: Need power steering Let me say that its the correct resevoir. As far as the pump from what I understand the originals had higher pressure than standard Mustang but like Roddster said I've never noticed a difference between original pumps and rebuilt Mustang units. Biggest thing is the resevoir with the 90 degree bend in it. Also if you notice there is a big groove that goes around the circumference. Later service replacements did not have this. As far as the correct pulley (7AC) it will work with a smaller standard pulley but visually it is easilly noticeable if you don't have the correct 7" pulley on there. Are you looking to have a correct system or one that works? Tim

Re: Need power steering Boy, are you in for a suprise. Trying to find proper powersteering hoses for a 1967 GT350 has been a real adventure. Some are not too hard to track down, the others are almost impossible. The ram hoses are not too difficult to find. They carry C6OZ 3A714A & C6OZ 3A717A part numbers. Early hoses had a single crimp on the fitting. Later version had a double crimp. Its the pressure hoses that are the hard ones. Its a 2 piece system: pressure line to the terminal block from the pump and pressure from the terminal block to the control valve. The lower hose uses a hose that is also used on the 500's. Thats a C7ZZ 3494A. Can be found. The real ball-buster is the pressure hose from the pump to the terminal block. There are 2 part numbers. The first carries a Shelby part number, S7MS 3A719A. The other carries a Ford part number, C7ZX 3A719A. Recently, I actually saw a C7ZX hose and when I inquired as to its cost, the person said it was not for sale, as he might need it some day. AND he doesn't own a Shelby or plans to buy one. Go figure. There are still Ford rebuild kits still available to rebuild the pump, control valve and ram. Its not that difficult. READ the instructions and don't get in a big hurry. Result, works great and No leaks! Try Perogies for the correct size pump pully as well as some of the hoses. Hope this helps. shlby66
Re: Need power steering Interesting side note. John Peterson (used to own several Cobras in New Mexico) used to have the aluminum T-pan that was put on the very first '67 Shelby. Shelby had planned to use the aluminum oil pans. But it rubbed the hoses where they were mounted near the control arm mount. It had marks on the lettering from where it hit (I think the "O" in Cobra was unreadable). They had already made the order the the S7MS hose and could not change it at the time, and there was not an easy way to change the mount for the hoses cost effectively. So the solution was that '67 GT350's would not get aluminum oil pans. I have to wonder what happened to that pan.
Re: Need power steering I sold John Peterson the Weber intake he used on his 289 Cobra. It was the GT40 style. That was in Albuquerque, back in the 70's. There was a lot of cost cutting when it came to the '67 Shelbys. By eliminating the aluminum oil pan, the Ford bean counters could add more profit to the bottom line. Thats why Ford sent them to watch over Shelbys operation. But the dilema of having a factory OEM, totally correct power steering ( hoses & all elements ) system installed on a fully restored '67 GT350 today is a very difficult task. I know. I just went through this frustrating exercise over this past year while restoring my '67 GT350. Good luck to those of you who will be attempting this. shlby66
Re: Need power steering The power steering pump is off of a truck. C7TZ Not sure if the pressure is different or just the housing for the 90 degree downturn on the back. Does anyone know where to get the return lines with the soft foam protectors on them? Randy
Re: Need power steering Don't know anything about "softfoam protectors". The 68's had that. My 67 has the flat spun metal wrap on both lower hoses (under and to the side of the engine).

The power steering return line that goes thru the radiator support including the cooler, is bulk hose that was available from your local Ford dealer. It came in a roll and you cut it to size. It had no protective padding. shlby66
