Just got back from SAAC 31. Had the pleasure of judging one of the factory
Paxton 67 GT-350's in the Concours (Div. 2). A Brittany blue car, even had the
original Paxton under dash gauges. Nice car......

    Kenny and all-
Dang, Kenny...missed meeting you and probably a bunch of other list members who were there. Saw Calvin and Colin, Andy Killian, Pete and Ann Geisler and bunches more old friends and met new ones. I was tied up all day on Friday instructing for the driver's school. Don't laugh but I was the one with the Chili Red Mini Cooper S. My wife wouldn't drive the Cobra R up and I was stuck driving the rig with 6S1467.
On Saturday, I was with the car all day long in "High Performance Motors". If you came by, ours was the red w/o stripes as you came from the walkway to the green pavillion. The banquet was, well, the banquet. If you went, you know what I mean...If you didn't you only missed seeing more friends.
Sunday a.m., they lined up all the original 2000 and 3000 series Cobras on the track for a photo session! Wow! We got to see the Concours cars and they were spectacular. Many Premier and Gold cars. Colin's Survivor '65 (#490 I believe) is an absolute time capsule! Brent Galloway from SC had a red '66 that was as good a car I've seen since Bruce Weiss' Sapphire Blue.
The vintage racing at VIR was terrific. Saw Colin and Andy out there burning fossil fuel like it's meant to be done! All in all, it was an enjoyable, safe, dry (albeit hot) week-end at a premier venue. I feel very fortunate living so close to such a wonderful facility. I'll be back up there this week-end instructing for the BMW club.

I met a handfull of list memebers. I was in the paddock out near the end
towards the concours show. The weather was hot enough (especially Sunday)
that we didn't get around as much as I would have liked. I wanted to get
over to Orlando Mustang's display on Sunday but I think they left early.

I was actually surprised at how many people recognized my car from a
picture I posted of it from about 30 years ago with a trailer hitch and
snow piled on top of the car.

    Andy:

I share your sentiment. I remember thinking that I had not seen a turnout of
that many people and cars since SAAC 18 at Watkins Glen 13 years ago.
I was also told that the banquet was sold out. Over 570 plus people had
bought tickets and the club had to stop selling them due to capacity. I don't
    recall that ever happening?

    Kenny

PS Are you Andy Killian with the 4000+ mile 67 GT-350?

    Andy,

Some day we will wise up and only bring one car to these things! Your 67 is
incredible, just awesome. Made my poor "high mileage" survivor car feel bad.
    LOL

Between running the GT40 in the B race group, the GT350 in the A race group,
the R model in open track (only lasted one session before some new engine
teething problems sidelined it), and the 289 Cobra and 65 GT350 in the shows
I am pretty wiped out today. My flight home was cancelled and it took me
jumping 3 flights to make it..but the show was worth it.

Any idea when they will post the race results? The couple of laps under
yellow and the restart sucked. Don't know about your car, but mine was a
little warm inside after all that ;) !

    Regards,

    Colin

It was my first and I had a blast, as did my wife. I agree with all that
Andy said, and can only add thanks. Thanks to the concours judges for the
insights. With every comment on a deficiency came suggestions on a fix - Bob
Gaines, Kenny Beers and Mike Hull were phenomenal! Thanks to Andy and Tom
Cotter for bringing their original 67's, which served as reference points
and visual encyclopedias. Thanks to all who raced for a great show. And
thanks to SAAC for a great event.

I am sold! We will be back - what a great time! Richard Gray

Colin, you are the man, I did not realize you were doing all that, you had way to many toys at one place, nothing made any of your cars look bad, your 65 was one of my favorite picks, I like cars like that, your race car was the nicest race car there. It looks like we like the same things I would like to talk to you sometime about your cars. Call me on my cell 828-308-8103, I know what you feel like being wiped out, it`s a lot to look after, I have taken as many as 5 cars to a event that was close and it was to much. My car was really hot under caution my water temp got to 225 and I was trying all types of tricks to get it down, I finally got out from behind the cars in front of me and sped up and slowed down letting the motor breath a little and got it stablized, as far as the finish I was 4th, Scottie was 3rd, Curt was 2nd, I think the guys name is Doug in 213 won, I thought I had something for them Saturday but I did not have the same grip Sunday, and then again it could have been the driver. All I know is I had a lot of fun and I drove as hard as I could and I didn`t win. The battle between Curt and Doug was a good one I had the best seat in the house, they were in the dirt as much as the pavement, I was beginning to think I was in a BAJA race. I was just waiting for them to make a mistake because they looked like they were going to take each other out a few times. But those guys are as good as you can get, they are capable of winning in any kind of car. Colin check my web site out at classicfordgarage.com since you like original cars.

I never managed to catch up with you during the weekend, but I saw your
car and realized that this is an old picture I hd of your car.

I hope that link works If not this one is a big picture of it:

Mom realized that she had raced against it a couple of times when Jimmy
Brown raced it. I have to look around, but I have a few more old pictures
of it I will have to locate and put up some time.

Agreed, I was hoping that since this event was so close to home, that the
event turnout would at least be OK and we would get the event back at VIR
sometime in the future. But I think the turnout was great! It was nice to
only be 3 hours from home.

I met Stan briefly at the driver's school. That turned out to be the best
deal for me for the weekend. I instructed. It was sort of disorganized,
but it worked out just fine. I got some good track time myself, probably
the best track time I got the whole weekend.

I really liked the way the various shows were done. I think they worked
out great. Now if it was only 10-15 degrees cooler it would have been
    perfect.

I would have liked it 10-15 degrees cooler as well! But, considering the
forecast we did have the week prior, I was happy for what we got. I'll take
    heat over rain any day!

It was a great convention, and I will gladly go back to VIR if they have it
there again. First class facility and great turnout. By the end of the race
I almost had the track figured out as well ;)

    Regards,
    Colin
