I know that electric cars are a buzz as an alternative to the Gasoline
engine. But aren't we generally burning oil and coal to make the electricity? So
we burn coal (a source that would have more pollution than a conventional
automotive gas engine) in one place, transmit it across to another (loss of net
energy), so we can use an electric car that can go up to 35 mph with a range
of 50 miles?
Better yet, we can buy a car that the numbers of acceleration, efficiency,
and distance work.
The price tag in excess of $100,000. Let's see, if I buy a new car for
$50,000 and get 20 mpg at $5 a gallon and drove 15,000 miles a year for 13 years
I would be even without calculating any cost to run the electric car.
Nice thinking, but not a viable alternative at this point. Might work, if
we built a whole bunch of nuclear reactors. Unfortunately, it would be
difficult to get that done because of politics.

I think methanol/ethonal is the way we need to look. These are distilled
from plants or plant waste. this would provide a renewable source and a boom to
the farming in this country.

In the ford truck they have a no cost option for the engines so they will
run on gas, alcohol, or any mix of. I believe chevy has the same.
going to this will not change the infrastructure for fuel supply and will
create a conversion market for conversion parts and service on the older cars.
change seals, gaskets, and hoses in the fuel system and then re-jet the carb
and you are there

I think we should run our vehicles on hot air! There's an inexhaustible (pun intended) from our politicians! Use local politician's hot air for commuting, state politician's hot air for in-state and farmer's gas, federal bureaucrat's hot air for interstate and air travel. On the other hand when you consider the amount we pay them, the cost per mile may not be so economical after all.

We will never see our government do anything that makes common sense on fuel because they have to many oil and energy companys financing their elections, they won`t bite the hand that feeds them. We can all think of ways to put a hurting on the middle east but you never see anything done about it. I would pay more for ethanol just to put a hurting on the oil countrys, that will be the only way to fight oil prices if we don`t we are doomed. I guess it`s more expensive to produce but how could you beat the opportunity to put farming back in business keep the money here and have clean air, what in the hell are we waiting for?

Just an observation, but until Bush (big oil) and Cheney (big oil) are out of the White House, nothing will happen. The sad state of politics is, the Democrats and Republicans are so interested in just getting re-elected that the common interests of the American public are just sidelines. Imagine what would happen if the 2 parties got together and tackled the oil monopoly problem; health care for ALL Americans at affordable prices; sensible drug prices and on ad infinitum. Back to oil pricing, the really galling part is that a major percentage of oil consumed by the U.S. comes from Canada. Both countries are sucked in to "world oil pricing", run by a cartel of oil Sheiks, who are not only anti American, but pro Hesbollah. Nice world we live in, isn't it?

Wilkes County in NC can definately produce their on fuel, they probably have enough practice and know how to produce plenty of ethanol, they sure know how to make white lightning because there is plenty that still comes from that way.

My Dad is from Lenoir, NC, which is either in Wilkes County, or just
outside of it. His line of ancestors is the only one that was not somehow
involved in the moonshine business. All of my father's uncles either made
it, carried it, or sold it.
