    Jody,

All excellent advice by Stan. I used to raise my car in the front by
the engine cross-brace too but got a little concerned about it when I
saw how much it flexed once, guess I shouldn't have looked. Certainly a
lot of people do it this way with no problems but I know of one guy who
bent the brace doing it this way. Haven't tried this yet myself but
another suggestion from a guy on another forum is to use a 4x6 cut to
fit so it spans the very front frame rails right behind the front
    valance lower edge.

    ------------------------------------
    All,

Here's a lesson learned the hard way:

I typically jack my GT350 clone from the rear under the differential, and at
the front, from the sides, under the chassis rails. I've heard too many
horror stories of jacking accidents using the tubular bolt-in bar that runs under
the bottom of the oil pan.

So, I jacked the rear of the car up, about as high as I could get it,
installed axle stands under the rear axle, then removed the rear wheels. Then went
to the front, and against my better judgement, decided to jack under the
    tubular bar.

The front of the car started up smoothly, and as I was paranoid about the car
potentially falling off the jack, I stared intently at the saddle of the jack
as the front end went up. Suddenly, something was amiss--the car was slowly
    moving SIDEWAYS????

I looked past the jack, to the rear of the car, and was horrified to see the
rear axle standing at least an inch off of the jackstands.

    Huh?

One of the rear tires I had removed and set to the side, had slowly, on its
own, rolled directly to the rear of the car. When the front end of the car
started coming up, the back end of the car started coming down (pivoting at the
rear axle/jackstand interface), until the lower valance came to rest on the
tire. The car was at this point suspended in the air by the jack in the front,
and tire tire under the sheetmetal in the back. And then the sheetmetal (and
the license plate) collapsed, cracking the paint, and letting the car shift to
the side as the tire started rolling!!!!

    ACK!!!!

Fortunately I was able to lower the front of the car again before any further
disaster took place. I bent the mangled panel and plate somewhat back into
shape by hand, and although the paint was comprehensively cracked, thankfully
it didn't flake off, and in fact you've seen many photos of the car duringthis
spring I had the car stripped to bare metal and painted. The body shop doing
the work was unfamiliar with Mustangs (and especially with the wide
availability of cheap parts), and thus devoted many expensive hours of labor to
straighten the tweaked panel and make it totally perfect. They were rather disgusted
when they subsequently learned a new replacement could have been purchased for
    about fifty bucks...

    Mike

I will testify Dan is a biggen. After that story I will have to refer
to him as Man Mountain Dan. I also have a jack story. When still a teen
,I was working on my front brakes with the tire off of the left front
and car supported by the factory scissor jack at the factory pinch weld
lift point. I ask my girlfriend and future wife to keep me company and
told her to get in the car and turn the car radio on in the car . She
stepped into the car and to my horror it was enough movement that it
caused the jack to roll over . I was on one knee at the time when the
wheel opening of the fender came down on my leg just above my knee. I
was lucky in that as car came down on my leg it rolled forward at the
same time which knocked my leg sideways and over so it only caught the
first impact . That saved my leg from snapping. I was left with a nasty
bruise and later when it healed ,a slight depression in the muscle to
forever remind me about my bonehead move and the dangers of jack
    stands. BG.
