According to www.autonews.com, Ford plans to sell a retail version of the 325 hp Shelby GT-H Mustang through its dealers. It will have the same set up as the 500 Hertz cars except with silver stripes and no "Hertz" markings. Shelby Autos is to do the assembly. Only "a few thousand" are to be built in the 2007 model year according to the Ford spokesperson. Any confirmation on this press release from Randal or anyone at Shelby Autos would be appreciated. The Shelbyautos web site is down due to reconstruction when I checked today.
I heard from a insider that Shelby is planning to build 4,000 per year, at the Las Vagas Plant. From the photos of thier plant I don't see how! Larry
They have numerous buildings and are actually planning for 8000 Shelby GT's. I'm not saying that is what will actually be built but that is what they are trying to plan for. Randall
Just don't try to turn the traction control off. You can't. Do me a favor though, Stephen. Write down the car number of the Shelby you rent. I'd like to see if it is the same one I get when I go to LAX in October for the FFW Fontana race.
I had fun with a weekend GT-H weekend rental here at home in Honolulu. Paradise in the fast lane. Love the heavy set handling and sound. Would be nice to have better lumbar suport and a five point harness as this Shelby Pony reallly kicks! And a stick instead the auto would be fun. You gotta love the rental agreement parts check list to make sure the entire GT-H comes back. And the "security" cable to insure that no one "borrows" the engine! Best inspection item has to be for the lot boys to check for the "cone shaped item in corner of engine compartment"...that's the K&N air filter folks! Forget the dragstrip or on ramps. Find a nice twisty trail or SCCA event and have a blast. Only thing better is a friend paid for the entire rental. Aloha.
Just got my latest Autoweek. In it there is an article about the new Shelby GT-H (Hertz). Seems that at first there were only going to be 500 produced for Hertz (all black and gold) and none for the general public. This article said that Ford had announced that they were teaming up with Carroll Shelby to build up to 10,000 more, all to be sold to the public. The new models will be available in two colors: black (with silver stripes) or white (don't know what color stripes). Retail price was expected to be about $35,000. So, are these 10,000 "Shelbys" going to be in the SAAC registry?
I would have to say "yes" to putting them into the registry. Oh yeah.....Shelby GT-H numbers 06H0070 and 06H0369 have verifiable race winning history. Fun Ford Weekend series Ultra Stang class.
