    Hi guys

I lost a bet because a friend sayed Walt Haynes R Model
    is a 66 Shelby G.T. 350R.
I told him that R Model only were built in 65.
Now i saw that Haynes car is a 66.
Is this car now a R Model as the 65 or just a G.T.350 with a racing apron
in front and rear side windows deleted?
    Does it still have heater,carpet,headliner....

    Thanks from germany

I was reading a book the other day by Richard Kopec of SAAC and he said 37 R models were made in 65 and they were only made in 1965 but the last half dozen or so were sold in 1966. Some had the 66 tape side stripes as opposed to the 65 painted on stripes. For what it's worth, that's what Kopec wrote 25 years ago.

Well Rick is an expert for sure....so I would go with what he says. I haven't read the R Model part in my Registry in a long time. Probably goes over it in there to.

The car Walt drove in 1965 and 1966 is R103...it is a 65 that was up dated in 1966 to 66 specs. SCCA B/P specs allow updating for production cars "with in the model year". It was in 1966 trim (side brake scoops) when he won at Riverside....Current owner is Ross Myers....R103 was in Walts shop several times while he was building my 66 Shelby. Walt has 8mm and now CD of the race....ask him about his "trick" rear wheels.

built like this? Good someone said half a dozend but are
they all like Walts car? Hmmm,.....

I have several pictures of the car in Walts shop...I think they are all from the side. As to the grill, I would imagine it still has the 65 grill. I do know the front clip has been replaced from when Walt drove it...it was stuffed in a sand bank somewhere, Walt has the complete story. Give him a call....his e-mail is epswalth@aol.com. Talk real nice to him and maybe he will send you a copy of the CD from Daytona in 65 and Riverside in 66. He built my 66 GT-350 into a period correct vintage race car....and is currently doing a Boss 302....He and his son Chip still vintage race. Last race was at Millermotorsports park in Utah, where they ran their 66 coupe.
