Greetings! My 1965 Mustang Fastback. At the present time, I can't afford the labor costs for replacing my floors, After redoing my interior, with the exception of carpeting, I did some sanding, bondo of a few holes, primered and painted the interior sheet metal - see pics. From the underside, I took a putty knife and a (4) weekends last summer, scraped off 80% of the 40 years of grime and undercoating. What a mess! It appears I missed a few tiny holes based on when I drove in a rain storm after a car show in July - there was still a leak somewhere - aprox. 1/4" of water in a few spots on the floor. Until the day comes for the new floors, what would you folks suggest I put down on the interior firewall and floors before the carpeting to help seal out any water from entering. Thanks. Rudy
Put a light under the car and look for the light to come thru the floor pans. Then use seam sealer or something like it to seal the holes. The pans really don't look that bad.
Rudy, Be sure and check the rear window for leaks. Small holes in the floor are probably not the culprit. It is hard for water to go up. There are drain tubes from the inside of the "side vent louver things" that are supposed to catch rain and drain it out the bottom of the car. I have seen many fastbacks with the rubber hose-tube missing altogether or plugged up. There are also rain shield plates that seal the front inner fender from tire spray. The rubber gaskets dry out and pieces of rubber get lost with age and poor instalation. look up inside the fender and see if they are sealed.. Replace them anyhow if you haven't already.. or shoot half a can of spray undercoating where they meet the fender. good luck! jimbo
Thanks Gents. Before I put back in the refurbished interior panels, I cleaned out the air vent drains and hoses. The inner fenders could be my problem. I'm not sure or how to go about replacing the rubber your talking about. Rudy
