They are just the track rims/w Kumho V700 Victoracers. I don't really like
them, I have a set of 15x8 200S Americans that I am going to put on it for
the next set of tires. That will get us closer to the 17x9-10's that the
local fast cars in ESP are using these days. But when we run the Shelby
they all stop and watch!!! I never have to take pictures, there are always
photos and videos of it that show up online somewhere. I have won once
this year, but usually finish 3-4th out of about 10 cars typically. Lee
you might be interested in the fact that the fast car in the class right
now is Jim Ewing in an Infinity G35.

  3. [Shelbymustang] Great Shelby Hertz story in C&D

    TheCarSource.com Shelby Mustang List
    ------------------------------------

    Hi guys,

There's a great story in the newest (November) Car & Driver, where four
staffers rented Hertz Shelbys and then ran them at the SAAC event.
    Worth a look....

Mike (driving a SEAT rental car in Spain, but about to trade it in for
    an Alfa Romeo 147....)

    You mean... these three cars?

    http://www.racecarstuff.com/photos/...DownloadItem&g2_itemId=3079&g2_serialNumber=2

They were sitting right in front of me in the tech line for the open
track. There was a big sign that said "Open Track Tech" and the 3 Hertz's
in line. I didn't have my camera at the moment, but it seemed like a great
photo for the later "urban legands" that will develop of these cars and
    race tracks.

Yeah, I only caught 3 in the picture. The Sunday afternoon sessions were
very "underpopulated" as most people were packing and heading for home
(had something to do with the heat and humidity). SAAC tends to lax the
rules a little on the last sessions I have found, so a "race" with the 4
    of them was probable.

There are stories like these appearing everywhere.

That was the first thing I noticed as well. That, and the Colony Park wagon in need of a strong detailing, the perhaps last remaining Bronco II in captivity, and the fact that the Hertz car wasn't even given a bath for the pictures....but yeah, that emblem is pretty sad!

I wonder how this seller bought the car from Hertz before it was put into service? I'd love to know the details. I have a friend that is upper, upper level mgmt at Ford and also instrumental in the Ford/ Hertz buyout that couldn't even get a car. Very curious.

    Description:

2006 rent a legend car for sale, Shelby GT-H. This may be one of the rarest cars to date with only 500 in production. This car has never been rented and was purchased from a Hertz dealer on delivery before the cars were put into the rental fleet. The car has 2500 miles and driven back from Las Vegas and to some local shows. It has all paper work and brochures from Hertz. This car is perfect, not a scratch or mark on it like I have noticed on several new Shelby GT500's. Good luck. This is the 2006 Shelby GT-H Hertz Rental Car. It is Shelby Mustang 40th Anniversary. Ford and Shelby Automobile Inc. only produced 500 of the Shelby GT-H cars. This is car #376 of 500. The Shelby number is 06H376. This is on the dash of the car and on the plate under the hood. One auctioned at EAA Air Adventure in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for $250,000 in July '06. This is the only other GT-H known for sale at this time. I would assume if that was the case this seller could not legally sell the
car if he did not already get Hertz to cave. He would need the title in hand
    ( in his name).
With such a high vin, it doesn't make sense.

I thought the "rent it until I own it" was silly, but I just sold my 2005
Lotus Elise and figured out it cost me $25.00 a day to own it for 2 years.
Or, even more sad, about $5.85 per mile. Yikes! I'm sticking to the old
cars. Does Hertz rent Elises? LOL

I was wondering that myself. How did he get Hertz to sell him the
car? Remember the '66 Hertz GT350H cars were actually owned by Ford
and "leased" to Hertz. When the leases were up the cars all came back
to Ford who told Shelby to get rid of them.
So who did he buy it from? I also wonder why "Ford" or whomever would
sell the car to allow it to resold on EBay.

Re: [Shelbymustang] Great Shelby Hertz story in C&D ( & 1 for saletoo!)

    TheCarSource.com Shelby Mustang List
    ------------------------------------
I was wondering that myself.

Are you running the stock power steering front end? Any mods to the
suspension? How about the motor, stock? I like to autocross but never

    Dennis,

I have manual steering. We have the complete power system from the car
sitting that could go back on the car. We did autocross it with power at
one time, but did the usualy conversion somewhere along the line. We have
replaced the steering box as the old one was tired at one point. This car
has been autocrossed since Lee Mathias bought it back about '72 or so. So
it has gone through a few changes, nothing drastic.

We have a 289 Hipo in the car now, but we are working on a relacement
engine to use in the car for now that is not old vintage iron, so that if
something happens it will be with more commonly available parts.

On the suspension we have different front springs, relocated upper A-arms
(Lee did this when he had it), an addco rear sway bar, Kumho V700
Victoracer tires, and that is about it. The rims are 15x7". Most of these
mods were made back in the 70's, it really hasn't changed much in the last
    30 years.

    >>>Just FWIW, the 2006 cars were purchased outright from Ford/Shelby by

Hertz, so they are disposing of them more or less the same way they
dispose of any of their rental cars, at about 14000-16000 miles. Most
will be sold to local Ford dealers for resale, but some individuals
have approached Hertz wanting to buy one direct (to the point of
pestering them about it), so they have indicated that they will pursue
    that option as well.

    To All,

I wouldn't normally do this, but there is a tie to a car on this list, mine!
:) I'm trying to raise some money for Breast Cancer research as a family
member is fighting this. I had a bunch of these plates made and am trying
to learn how to use E-Bay to promote it. Maybe some old gearhead types
might be interested for their wives, daughters, mothers, friends ...

I'm such an E-Bay novice that I can only provide "1" item at a time until I
generate some sales or so E-Bay says. I feel pretty stupid about this, how
is it that I can possibly be working on the next space vehicle that will go
to the moon (Orion) and E-Bay selling is giving me fits (lol).
