hi there. ive been in contact with the chap who owned 349 through out the '70's and sold it '84. He had a world of memrobilia, books, advertising and articles which he has passed on to me. Amongst it all was a 4 page Special Vehicle Order and Parts Spec for the car listing all added and deleted parts. Is this like a build sheet you would find under the carpet of other mustangs. Can anybody enlighten me please ? Thanks.
Will try and keep this somewhat shot. When Ford agreed to make any special order papers and forms needed to document what changes needed to be done. In most cases the list was short and did not require a bunch of paper work. But in the case of Shelby’s there were many things that needed to be done to the cars before they reached Shelby that were not regular production practices and/or parts. To show the assembly line managers and workers what these differences would be they put together a list. These lists have become to be known as "Add/Delete Sheets". Each order of cars (from a couple to maybe 75) would be lumped together with other similar cars (in the case of 67's they might be a group of GT3500's) and assigned a group number (89-2143 for example) This number would tell someone the district or ordering group and the number of that group (2143rd order for that group in the example) The list normally identifies a starting vehicle and regular production equipment. From there the list identifies parts/processes that would be replaced and what parts/processes would replace them if any. You seem to indicate that this is four pages (either complete or partial) from the 1966 build process. Is this correct? The top of the page should give you a couple of dates, one being when the group of cars was assembled. Any chance of getting a scan or copy to help out others? Currently have some of the others and this may complete one set or make them easier to view as often they are damaged due to water or the tar used in the underlayment. Hope this helps Jeff S
thanks Jeff - that's great. Im sorry but i don't have a very good scanner so i took these with the digital camera....hope they can show you enough detail. Yes there are four pages complete and 1 extra about the outside rear view mirror holes. It is dated 9-17 with a sched date 10-11. and is for the first 100 units (i would presume after the carryover cars) My car invoice date is 12/10/65. Thanks again for the insight. cheers.
