What plugs are you running in your hipo?

    I'm getting around to changing the plugs in 6s081 and went to the parts store to get new ones. Their book showed autolite 46 for all 289s which they did not have. They checked their AC/Delco application book and it showed R84TS for the 289 Hi-Po as a complete separate application for the rest of the 289s. I bought the R84TS and brought them home, but when I pulled the old plugs I found Autolite 33 plugs in there, and they were significantly different (threaded portion different in length) from the R84TS plugs. I then found some new plugs on the back of one of my shelves and they were Autolite 35. So what plugs are folks running out there? If I remember correctly, the Hipos were supposed to run hotter plugs than the standard 289s but it has been a while so I could be wrong.

    The Hi-Po had Bf 32 the 4bbl and the 2bbl had Bf 42... IIRC the HiPo plug was actually one range colder than the standard one.. There were also metal core wires that went to the dizzy. Almost all plugs now have some kind of cabon (rf. noise suppression core) electrode in them. In this new millenium the radio is more important than the motor.. My 98 Ford van has 150,000 miles on the sparkplugs. New spark plugs and new ignition systems are profoundly better than the old stuff. My hipo has bf 32's not because they are better.. It is because I am nuts...:blink:

    hi chaps - i also asked this question in a thread a little earlier. My '66 runs autolite AP45 . They were in it when i got it and it has never missed a beat but i looked into changing them when i took one out to check and saw that it was what appeared to be corroded around the centre electrode - but apparently being a platinum plug : that is what they are supposed to look like :doh: (don't worry -i'll keep to my day job keeping planes apart :thumbsup: )
    so AP45 platinum plugs work fine in my supercharged 289. cheers.

    Thanks for the info guys. I threw the Autolite 35s in the car today and its runs great.
    eljimbo, after I thought about it, it makes sense the Hi-Pos actually ran a colder plug and just shows once again to not trust my memory;) I know this means I should have put 33s back in, but since I am not planning any track time for a while, I figured the 35s would do for now.

    I did see your earlier post and to answer what plug other than autolite would work. The autolite box said Champion F11Y are equivalent plugs to the Autolite 35.

    Been using Autolite APP45 double platinum plugs for several years now. No problems.

    Jay: I have a couple of sets of Autolite BF32's. They are right for 289 Hipo.
    I realize this post is old but if you are still in need or want the right thing here they are. They are right for 427's, 406's, and other Hipo Fords. :thumbup:

    I also have plenty of BF-32's (for sale) but would like to find a nice set of the BF-32's with the star. Anybody want to part with a set?
